Im sick to death of people doing it and i have suddenly decided that tomorrow i am going to sit by my window with my hosepipe and soak people when they look through my window im going to soak them!!

Of course you could put up a huge poster with the words 'FUCK OFF ya staring gits' or some such printed on it ...but then you could be done for Causing Offence

funwithfondue · 26/07/2009 16:51

I really can't help but look at people's houses when I walk past- especially when I'm going slowly with the dog or the pram. I look at their front gardens, flower beds and drive, their front doors and windows, and into their front windows , generally taking in the layout, ornaments, whether they've got a piano or not. Random stuff. I do it entirely subconsciously (unless I'm in the process of choosing, say, a new front door myself, and researching). Also, as it takes about 1.5 seconds to walk past the front of most houses, it's incredibly brief. Onto the next house, and I've immediately forgotten what I've just seen at the last.

I don't think what I do is unusual, or rude, or unreasonable. It's human nature. I'm glad we don't walk around like soldiers only staring straight ahead - our curiosity is part of what makes us human.

Oh, and buy some nice voiles - I got mine from the market, £10 per window. They keep flies out too when you've got the windows open.

LaurieFairyCake · 26/07/2009 16:52

yabu

and you can't spray water into the street

people are just casually glancing

no one is properly staring apart from the local loon

put nets up you freak

HerBeatitude · 26/07/2009 16:53

Tiredmum yes I was talking to you, you sound deranged.

It is perfectly normal to look in people's windows - our eyes are naturally drawn to a view. It's like when you sit in a pub and there is a TV on, you don't want to watch it, but you can't help your eye being drawn towards it.

Anyone who gets so upset about someone glancing into their house as they walk by (as opposed to stopping and getting their telescope out) sounds completely round the bend. Sorry but you do. You and the OP have a completely disproportionate response to this, I am assuming that neither of you are completely serious. If you are, you're both nuts.

Greensleeves · 26/07/2009 16:55

you are psychotic

Greensleeves · 26/07/2009 16:56

they are trying to see their own side reflection in your window

chegirl · 26/07/2009 17:02

Why dont you stand and wave to catch people's attention and then shout 'stop staring you nosey fuckers!!'

That should do it.

There is a flaw in my plan, I will admit. The people you shout at on Monday may not be the people who are looking in the general direction of your house on Tuesday or Wednesday etc. So you may have to do it quite a lot until every one gets the message. It could take some time.

Or you could nip to ikea and buy a blind?

moondog · 26/07/2009 17:03

I snort with laughter at accusations like this or wild assertions about neighbours spying and stuff like that. People really flstter themselvesto think others find them so interesting.

Tiredmumno1 · 26/07/2009 17:05

Ok lets agree to diragree, i am deranged so all you who look in windows with kids that live there must be paedo's. At least my parents brought me up with respect as opposed to being dragged up. + i am probably younger than most of you. Oh well i am sure you need to get back to your boring lives. Just as well i think i hear some windows calling you......

LaurieFairyCake · 26/07/2009 17:08

You are a nutter tiredmumno1 - and it is totally inappropriate to call a bunch of parents paedo's

I'm reporting your post.

It's people glancing in windows, not touching your children

Greensleeves · 26/07/2009 17:08

you sound very poorly brought up to me

you are aggressive, inarticulate and have no manners

and did they not send you to school at all?

What a lot of paranoid fuss about nothing. If people glance into my living room I smile at them. I was dancing around the room with ds2 in my arms once when I noticed a little lady outside on the pavement beaming at us. It was a lovely moment.

Did your parents bring you up to loathe other people and think the worst of them? How proud they must be of you.

Tiredmumno1 · 26/07/2009 17:09

And moondog, i hate going in my garden, as i am always watched by the neighbour over the road and next door, why just yesterday i was being watched the whole time i tidied the garden, i find this weird

proverbial · 26/07/2009 17:11

Loon. You should line the windows with tin foil, and make yourself a hat while you're at it, "they" will be reading your brainwaves next you know.

Greensleeves · 26/07/2009 17:11

have you considered entering holy orders? Or better still, becoming an anchorite?

Bonkers

Tiredmumno1 · 26/07/2009 17:13

Whatever laurie there are paedos round our area, as we have been told this by police but i suppose u think its ok. Did i call you that. And i find it ridiculous u want to report someone for having an opinion, i have seen worse on here. So being brought up to respect peoples property and belongings is wrong eh. No wonder the kids nowadays think they can do what they want.

moondog · 26/07/2009 17:14

You're not Tired.
Believeme.

Hormonesnomore · 26/07/2009 17:14

I look in car windows too - I'm not disrespectful or badly brought up - I like people & have a perfectly natural curiosity regarding other people's lives. I got a lovely smile from a little boy in a passing car yesterday & it made my day. Yes, I have a sad life, for lots of reasons & little gestures really brighten it up for me. I'd hate to think I can't look at other people for fear of offending them.

Tiredmumno1 · 26/07/2009 17:17

And laurie i should report you for calling the op a freak. Thats the pot calling the kettle isnt it......

LaurieFairyCake · 26/07/2009 17:17

You said that people who look in windows of houses that contain children are 'paedo's'.

Clearly from all the nice, naturally curious glancers on this thread they are NOT.

Looking at other peoples property is not disrespecting it either.

chegirl · 26/07/2009 17:18

Yes tiredmumno1 you are the only person her who objects to peadophiles. I know this is true because you do not like people looking at your house, and you are young.

Proof positive that you are far more well bought up and sensitive to sexual predators than the rest of us.

here we go.

LaurieFairyCake · 26/07/2009 17:18

oh yeah - freak, paedo's - that's just the same

Greensleeves · 26/07/2009 17:18

narcissistic personality disorder

it's a terrible thing

LaurieFairyCake · 26/07/2009 17:20

And I'm pretty sure Bedfordshire is not overrun with paedophiles - certainly not more than any other county.

There are no reds under the bed either.
