...to be irritated by people who pack their DCs off to clubs as soon as the hols start?

I'm not talking about people who work full/part-time here. But really about people who are SAHM/SAHDs. Some people seem to be terrified at the prospect of spending any time with their DCs just in the home, just hanging out or doing home activities. I've got a DS - 5 and a DD - 2.5, and I'm looking forward to some weeks of chilling out, painting, craft stuff, swimming, playing etc. I've lost count of the number of other SAHMs who take the "can't possibly have them at home for 6 weeks" line and schedule the entire break to within a nano-second. Or am I being mean not booking DS1 in for loads of different activities?

what's she done fimbo?

sabire · 24/07/2009 12:10

YABU

I'd love for my children to be going to a kids club.

Right now my youngest (4) is tormenting the dog.

My middle one (6) has been on the Wii for 4 hours.

My oldest (10) is playing on the computer upstairs.

I feel like death warmed up - I've got a rip-roaring sinus headache accompanied by nausea. Had it for 3 days now.

I'm hard pressed to find anything we can all do together at the moment, apart from trips to Ikea and to the park to walk the dog. My youngest is very hyper and won't sit through a film or stay with you if you go out to a gallery.

You can't take more than one child under 7 swimming at a time in ANY of our local swimming pools, so that's out for me.

I'm dreading the rest of the holidays... the squabbling and the mess. And the fact that I'm still having to do my jobs while entertaining 3 children - ie cook, clean, shop, go out to work several evenings a week.

TheLadyEvenstar · 24/07/2009 12:22

Sabire, sent your youngest here fight club starts when everyone arrives with a packet of custard creams and then i lock them all in the cellar and run away get on with mumsnetting packing

Fimbo · 24/07/2009 12:25

ZZ-generally fighting with her brother. Being stroppy (she's 11 so teenage hormones raging), not doing as she is told. Says shes bored, but when I offer her various craft activities or say to read her book, wii etc, she doesn't want to.

She was supposed to be going to see a friend today but friend has suspected swine flu so thats off and she has to come to a party with ds and me, where apparently she is going to "sit in the corner like this " The party is having an entertainer who she has loves and there will be loads of silly dancing, like the fast food song thing, but no she is going to sit in the corner

She is currently straightening her hair and watching Cash In The Attic.

Roll on bedtime.

Oblomov · 24/07/2009 12:28

Sign mine in for the fightclub. I will pay whatever it costs for ds1(5) and ds2(0.9) and I am coming too , aged 36. No cheese knife.
£100 per day, you say ? BARGAIN.

TheLadyEvenstar · 24/07/2009 12:43

Oblo, so what are we going to do while the dc are in the cellar in fight club???

2kidzandi · 24/07/2009 12:57

Finished game with DS. Are admissions for fight club still open? Eaten half the custard creams....Are half-packets acceptable as payment?

TheLadyEvenstar · 24/07/2009 12:59

hmmm 2kidz ok you can have the reduced rate of half a packet admission. But please don't let on to everyone lol

2kidzandi · 24/07/2009 13:08

TLES might as well eat a couple more then! (Even bigger ) Don't worry, I can fill the bottom of the packet up with rich tea's and leave a few custard creams floatig on top, that way none of the others will know and I'll still get quality fight club!

ben5 · 24/07/2009 13:19

i sent mine to summer club for a couple of days for the first 2 weeks of last summer and then spent the rest of the summer with them. it's bloody hard work and know why and if i had the money i would send them one day a week for the whole summer. it's the only time sahm get a break. some of us don't have helpful grandparents or husbands( some of them might be in the services so no extra parent suppport but that is a different story). so thats why we send them to holiday clubs

FAQtothefuture · 24/07/2009 13:22

only just seen this thread.

Just come back from picking DS1 up from the holiday club he's been attending every morning this week.

He wanted to go, he's had a fantastic time.

And the problem is??????

ZZZenAgain · 24/07/2009 13:33

the problem is you are TERRIFIED of being with your dc, you see, didn't you know that? You should keep your cheese knives blunt in future - and in the meantime have a custard cream

ZZZenAgain · 24/07/2009 13:34

And don't polish them all off, you need at least half a packet for the admission fee (fight club)

but don't tell anyone else about the reduction

TheLadyEvenstar · 24/07/2009 13:40

tut tut now the secrets out they will all want a reduction...hmmmm am upping the price to half a packet of custard creams PLUS a jaffa Cake

FAQtothefuture · 24/07/2009 13:41

oh I'm terrified of being with them I see..........

ZZZenAgain · 24/07/2009 13:43

ooh you're a business woman!

ZZZenAgain · 24/07/2009 13:45

ah c'mon off it FAQ, we know you were cowering in the cupboard

Have a jaffa cake

giantkatestacks · 24/07/2009 13:45

I've got 3 wispas and a can of coke...surely good enough?

ZZZenAgain · 24/07/2009 13:46

you'll have to run tht one past evenstar. I think you're in with a good chance.

Should we let juicy in for free, what do you reckon? I find her alright on the whole

giantkatestacks · 24/07/2009 13:48

Weeell we could - you run the risk of her wanting to do craft or something with them though...

posieparkerinChina · 24/07/2009 13:48

The clue is in the OP, she has a five and two and a half year old. Although I don't get full time kids clubs on holiday. When not abroad occupying my dcs for the whole summer on I ensure they have some activities, not holiday club all day things. So one week they might do tennis a couple hours each morning, another cricket for a couple of days etc. They have at least one week either side to just relax.

pointydog · 24/07/2009 13:49

my dds are out racking around the streets and parks and getting into trouble right now.

They should be rounded up and clubbed so they achieve something positive

TheLadyEvenstar · 24/07/2009 13:51

Giant you are now officially signed up for the entire 6 weeks holiday plus christmas holiday as well (3 wispas did it)

Juicy could come BUT who wants to be in the cellar with the brats children doing crafts when we could be upstairs having fun???

ZZZenAgain · 24/07/2009 13:52

herd them down to the fight club girls, pronto.

Maybe we get juicy to run the fight club?

giantkatestacks · 24/07/2009 13:52

woo hoo...I can teach them my special bodyslam move - it will be like the 80s all over again...
