...to be irritated by people who pack their DCs off to clubs as soon as the hols start?

I'm not talking about people who work full/part-time here. But really about people who are SAHM/SAHDs. Some people seem to be terrified at the prospect of spending any time with their DCs just in the home, just hanging out or doing home activities. I've got a DS - 5 and a DD - 2.5, and I'm looking forward to some weeks of chilling out, painting, craft stuff, swimming, playing etc. I've lost count of the number of other SAHMs who take the "can't possibly have them at home for 6 weeks" line and schedule the entire break to within a nano-second. Or am I being mean not booking DS1 in for loads of different activities?

I don't like jaffacakes. Custard creams are my fave too. With bourbons a close second.
Sorry, sorry, back to the original topic. As you were, ladies.

Oblomov · 24/07/2009 11:47

I have 3 packets of custards and 3 packets or bourbons, in my cupboard, currently. Best you all hot it over to mine then.

TheLadyEvenstar · 24/07/2009 11:48

Dumbledores, omg you mean we don't just sit around????????

I am so so so so gonna show that to dp who thinks that ds2 sleeps most of the day and i can get everything done including the packing whilst cooking, cleaning, clearing up after urchin looking for a new place, dealing with twat landlord, oh and shoving a broom up my ass and sweeping the floor as well

LIZS · 24/07/2009 11:49

Agree about the cost - £100+ per week around here , with specific ones such as drama nearer £200 , but then I hear of 50p per session ....

Dumbledoresgirl · 24/07/2009 11:50

I was going to say, SAHMs are working people too otherwise we would all be sitting around on MN all day....

But then I realised that was exactly what I had been doing for the last 3 days.

Well I am on my break now ok?!

pagwatch · 24/07/2009 11:51

Dumbledoresgirl

Do you really think that couples where both work are always the wealthiest?

2kidzandi · 24/07/2009 11:51

Some Jacobs Crackers too ZZZen please if you're going to the shops. Don't worry about the cheese that's in TLES's fridge according to her DC

TheLadyEvenstar · 24/07/2009 11:51

I think i will send ds1 down to the cellar to start boxing up the junk books and things. Anyone else got dc who are bored? loads to do in my cellar

I've only read the OP but shall look forward to it in a few years when you look back at this after you have been doing the school holidays for a few more years

TheLadyEvenstar · 24/07/2009 11:54

2kidz, oh ds2 can find cheese a mile off lol and then he says "cheese mama" and tries for a knife lol.

Dumbledoresgirl · 24/07/2009 11:54

Pagwatch, no not the wealthiest, but they are the ones who will need to find some childcare solution during the holidays and might choose holiday clubs.

giantkatestacks · 24/07/2009 11:55

TheLadyEvenstar - I thought for a moment you were going to send your ds1 into the cellar to start up a fight club. Well thats a novel approach to the problem I thought...

sparklesandwine · 24/07/2009 11:56

....but then i am super wonderful (in OP's eyes) as i never pack my 5 dc off to activity things

TheLadyEvenstar · 24/07/2009 11:56

Giant ohhhhhhhh I had not thought of that....... except he has not got a fighting bone in his body.....who wants to sign their dc up for fight club in Tles cellar?

ZZZenAgain · 24/07/2009 11:57

alright I vote we head off to Oblomov's and NOBODY under 30 brings a cheese knife with them

Can I just ask, evenstar, why you need to shove the broom up your arse? (The rest of it was clear) Wouldn't it save time if you skipped that bit?

Oblomov · 24/07/2009 11:58

SAHM might need the break MORE. I mean nearly 7 weeks is a long time. Might be that child /children AND mother need a break. Thus childcare/ activity week could be a godsend.

TheLadyEvenstar · 24/07/2009 11:58

lmao sparkles no no no you don't ignore them and sit on MN all day what you do is...

you expand your social interaction to aide and assist the nuturing of your dc.....

2kidzandi · 24/07/2009 11:58

Just had a impatient request from DS 7 to get my {ass of mumsnet} and play a game of othello with him. So trying to frantically stuff as many custard creams in as possible!

giantkatestacks · 24/07/2009 11:58

How much will the Fight Club cost then? And where's the ofsted report?

Am willing to spend the aforementioned 50p and provide a packed lunch. And some plasters.

pagwatch · 24/07/2009 11:59

ahh - ISWYM.

The 8 am to 6 pm ones probably will be mostly WOHM but DD is going on a 10am until 3.30 thing next week and all the places I know of are SAHMs with several children. The cost isn't an issue for most of them - a consideration of course but not a problem of affording or not.

I guess I was responding to

"How do SAHMs/Ds afford so many organised activities?"

TheLadyEvenstar · 24/07/2009 11:59

ZZZ, lol i will leave that bit out but the floor has to be swept everyday because urchin can create a mess from nothing...but his fav at the moment is digging in my plants!!!

Fimbo · 24/07/2009 12:00

Having just sat in the bathroom and sobbed, I can fully understand why people use clubs.

My dd is going to a one day athletic course in a couple of weeks. Hooray.

ZZZenAgain · 24/07/2009 12:01

sign her up for the fight club. Costs one packet of custard creams. No cheese knifes allowed, all dc will be filched on arrival
