to pretend dc are not mine on longhaul flights?

My friend has recommended that if we pretend dc are not ours, dc are then able to run up and down the aisles unhindered thereby enabling us to get a good rest.

What do Mners think of this plan?

even better idea, why don't you say your on your honeymoon and see if you can get upgraded to 1st and leave them in cattle.

I can confess now, it's not my friend's suggestion it's mine.

Not only that but I've actually DONE IT

Not only that but my dh didn't know of my plan as the miserable airline had messed up our seating arrangement which meant we all sat in different places (dh nearest so able to help with mealtimes)

The air stewardesses were so unhelpful and obviously childless by asking us to keep young dc in their seats with tv monitors that didn't work properly so when they asked for the dc not to play in the aisle I put a blanket over my head.

They were not noisy btw.

May try this one on our forthcoming trip. What a fab idea.

It will give me enough time to perfect the "Ttch.... some parents...." mutter whilst simultaniously shaking my head.

Start to decide now what duty free to purchase

There is nothing worse than dc in their seats and then god forbid playing in their seats with the seat/table crashing up and down and so annoying the passenger behind so I reckon I did them a service.

I was also able to sleep for the duration. Dh did look somewhat frazzled and dishevelled on exiting the plane but hey, it was a good experience for him to 'take over the reins' once in a while before the hols, and in so doing 'reconnect' with them a little.

So all in all a win win situation.

Only problem is, I know that if I'd tried this, my DC would have found me within 5 minutes and blown my cover....

My DS sat in front of someone who did just this last week. It was a DS and his father, the father just put on ear phones and ignored the 3 yr old, who asked endless questions and never shut up-they were ready to throttle him by the time they landed!

To avoid the possibility of dc finding you you definitely need to put a blanket over your head

I was very tempted last year to book the 3 SmallDragons into Cattle Class as unaccompanied minors and book myself into 1st class.

Hmmm, another vote for Soupy's idea. Has anyone on here tried this and got away with it? I guess that one can sell the idea to the kids easily enough, but won't the kids drop into the conversation that their parents are at the front? Also is there a problem with trying to meet the kids at the other end - do they get whisked through even faster than 1st class?

Well in my case I would probably go for Club World than 1st (in fact I think that my particular holiday flights only have Club World rather than first). But I was travelling to Ireland as an unaccompanied minor from 7, and ds1 will be 9 and ds2 will be 7 on our next longhaul. They've both been flying several times a year since birth. They'd probably find the whole thing a bit of an adventure.

I guess though that I wouldn't be able to avoid peeking at some point in the flight which would probably blow the plan. But I bet as unaccompanied minors there would be no issue in them to getting their preordered meal or working IFE.
