to be thinking, crap I've turned into my over organised mother because...

on Tuesday I ashamedly started... christmas shopping !

I was happily browsing the shops for birthday present for my little sisters and then I spotted a few bargains and thought that would be great for DS's christams bla bla bla.

Then I got home and thought about it and realised I actually am off my head, it's July FGS why am I even thinking about 'that' time of year?!

On the bright side though I did get some bargains and now my mum is bleating on about how much easier it makes life and that I've finally got trhe point she's been trying to make for years... bloody mum of mine

I found myself thinking about X-mas the other day- I even nearly asked DD (5) what she wanted! I've turned in to my bloody mother too

The only thing I would say is that unlike my mother, I will remember where I put everything- I'm sure when we empty her loft we'll find tonnes of stuff that the 3 of us should have had many childhood christmas's ago!!!

LOL. I don't physically shop for Christmas this early in the year, but I do start planning it in about April!

Well just whatever you do, don't forget you've bought it. That's what I did the one year I got stuff early - I realised I'd ended up buying for the person twice!

lol @ shootfromthehip. My mum always used to uncover some forgotten about present in July when she was packing for our summer holiday; invariably in the suitcase!!

LOL glad it's not just me then!

Never thought about where to stash them right enough, must get sorted although I have to admit now if I had the money I reckon I would quite happily get the lot done now.

And yes I know that it does happen eventually buts urely at 22 I should have another 8 years atleast

Bought some Xmas cards in the Boots sale last week.

Thing is, I always buy a couple of things in the summer and think I'm really organised and brilliant and everything and I get a false sense of security.

December comes round and I realsie that, shit, I haven't actually bought anything!

I know 30 is'nt old, but there is only 17 years between me and my mum so I thought that maybe it would happen sooner because of this... honest...

I think that, when you reach the point in life where you realise that family life is a bit like any other human venture (eg a small business) and requires planning and forethought and a certain amount of routine, you are a grown-up .

I do Christmas Cards in the Jan sale then put a note in my diary for around Oct to remind myself where I put them!!!

I've had ds1's christmas present for this year in the cupboard since last christmas!

Although I confess I'm not super organised I just decided last year he had way too many presents so kept some back for this year. I think that's called being tight not organised

Your mother like mine would have finished it all by Oct(cards,paper the lot). I'm suspecting you won't.

omg it is not just me then ....i actually made a present list for all my godchildren yesterday and ordered all birthday and christmas presents for the coming year online. thought i might wrap/label and store them all at the weekend .....my mother too finds presents in july, and often on boxing day says " now didn't you get a purple scarf" and when i say " no" she will say vaguely " oh , um, right ..I will just go and have alook " she invariably comes back 10 mins later with several more presents for everyone she had forgotten about . I AM GOING TO BE SO LIKE HER.......

Oh dear. It's happening to me too. And I don't even have children yet. But we're travelling on Christmas Eve and my boss won't let me take any extra leave so I'm already thinking, "Mmm, I should start looking out for presents for everyone back home as we can't take anything too large and won't have time to shop once we arrive."

On the plus side, am relieved it's not just my mum who used to do this (including the losing of presents). My father, very sweetly I thought, once told me as my mum was buying half a dozen naff little trinkets from a street market in France for "friends" that he totally understood that she probably wouldn't give most of them away or that the ones she did wouldn't be used, but that the act of doing the shopping made her happy so he just went along with it.
