was walking ds1 home from school and i passed an estate where there had been a big fire (it was in the news) anyway ds1 wanted to look at the floral tributes, so we were standing there and there was this woman with her dd, about 6 or 7 years old. She was talking to dd about the girl who had died in the fire. and kept on and on at her until the little girl started crying...then the mother said "oh come on now don't cry" errrrrrr you made her cry!!!

Thats awful

Poor little thing, Why did her mum feel the need to make her cry? what goes through peoples heads?!

how sad to hear about the fire

Milsna, i just stood there and wondered why you would keep on at a child until the cried. The 2 girls had been in the same class at school. But the little girl was admiring the flowers and her mum just would not give it up.

"Oh look theres a photo from when you went out"

"You realise she is dead don't you? you know that means she will never play with you again"

"Look there is her school jumper"

and such comments. It is sad enough for the community as it is, 6 people died including a 3 week old baby girl.

how awful - 6 people.

and yes what a bizarre way to go on to your own child. Poor kid!

Wasn't there so hard to judge but maybe the mother wanted her to fully comprehend so she could grieve properly? And perhaps she was a little ham fisted in doing so.

Herbie, the mum spoke to me when her dd went to look at other flowers etc and she said that she had been asking why people die and how sad it was that she would never see her friend again. So maybe I am wrong but it seems like the little girl had some understanding. It did seem OTT to me and also ds1 commented on it.
