This year, his teacher has been amazing and it's made all the difference.

i teach a mixed age class and so have children for 2 years running, it's not unusual for some children to make hardly any progress one year and then make great leaps the next especially if they are little and maybe not ready to learn to read.

I think you should just be proud of your son to be honest

just read your previous thread, the speech thing is probably the reason why your son made poor progress in his reading last year

Gingernutlover- I am enormously proud of him. She wasn't just negative on that parents' evening, but for the entire year. I've talked to mums of his classmates and it seems that a child is either on her favourites list or isn't and if they're not, they're pretty much written off.

YANBU - you should definitely have shouted 'HA!' at her. If it were me I would have stuck my tongue out as well! Well done your son!

Don't waste your energy feeling negatively towards this teacher, just focus on how well your son has done.

That is easy for me to say, I would probably have done a Jezza Kyle style "L" on my forehead, or at least wanted to, but the main thing is that your son is achieving fab results

But maybe he had made no progress in his reading? She can't really say he had if he hadn't. Having said that, you never need to be completely negative.
