I think it's fair enough to really want this vaccination. I don't imagine that the government would push the vaccine through so quickly if they didn't think there was a fairly good need for it.

tryingtobemarypoppins · 16/07/2009 20:14

Ahhhh but they will put it through a 5 day, yes 5 whole day, testing process LeonieSoSleepy!

I have to be honest, I am more worried about him catching swine flu than the vaccine.......maybe that is maddness but when a 6 year old dies......

mrsboogie · 16/07/2009 20:15

it is a bit daft given the swine flu one will be untested and the MMR one is perfectly safe.

I'd be much more worried about the swine flu one causing a problem.

I can't wait for the time when my 10 month old gets his MMR as I am worried about the implications of him having it and catching the flu at around the same time. I am tempted to ask if he can the MMR early so it is out of the way before swine flu is rife in our area.

I'm with your DH on that one I'm afraid....suspicious of a well researched world wide used vax with a 20 year history, then gagging for a brand new untested rushed through new one? Doesn't make much sense to me. Measles is prob more dangerous to your kid than swine flu. That said, my OH is on a priority list already to get a vax if one appears.
But up to you.

tryingtobemarypoppins · 16/07/2009 20:17

So mrsboogie, will you still give the flu vaccine?

pitchounette.....don't be scared!!

tryingtobemarypoppins · 16/07/2009 20:20

Really proverbial? Is there a priority list? Who's on it?

OP posts:
katiestar · 16/07/2009 20:21

speaks volumes how the freeriders anti-vaxers change their tune when an illness becomes a reality.
Do you think measles is less serious than flu?

tryingtobemarypoppins · 16/07/2009 20:22

Are you asking me katiestar?

OP posts:
stonethecrows · 16/07/2009 20:24

What's a freerider?

tryingtobemarypoppins · 16/07/2009 20:25

I was wondering that?

OP posts:
poopscoop · 16/07/2009 20:26

i heard they had not done clinical trials yet and that they were going to rush them through. i.e not spend as long as they normally do. This worries me.

Northernlurker · 16/07/2009 20:27

It is a bit rich imo. Doesn't mean you shouldn't get the flu jab though. Perhaps you'd like to reflect on how many 6 year olds die from measles and from complications of other diseases for which vaccines are avilable whilst you're about it?

harpsichordcarrier · 16/07/2009 20:27

yes, it is a bit rich of you tbh.

Its not official and I'm not in the UK, its just our local surgery has a list of patients who have conditions etc that make them a priority. My OH has a chronic lung condition which means he needs annual flu shots anyway, so will be priority for any swine flu vax.

paisleyleaf · 16/07/2009 20:29

The swine flu vaccine worries me more than the MMR

hercules1 · 16/07/2009 20:30

Seems as though you were going along with the whole not giving mmr for trendy reasons rather than health.

mrsboogie · 16/07/2009 20:30

I'm not 100% sure if I will give him the vaccine yet to be honest. I'm kind of hoping it will hurry up and be ready though.

I guess it will be a question of weighing up the risks at the time- if, by the time the vaccine is ready babies have been very ill or died (please god not) then I suppose one would be more inclined to get it done.

Overall at the momement I would be much more worried about him getting measles than swine flu but that's becasue I have personal experience of how devastating measles can be.

paisleyleaf · 16/07/2009 20:32

I think we have a priority list running too:
health care professionals
vulnerable people such as elderly and under 5s
etc
I can't remember how the list runs exactly

hercules1 and Northernlurker, I said I worried about the MMR NOT that my DS didn't have it. He did thanks.
