To think that the biggest arse-ache about Swine Flu is being bloody quarantined

Just been diagnosed with suspected Swine Flu, pending swab results.
Frankly, so far, symptoms have been minimal - sweats, achey limbs, extreme tiredness, sniffy nose and tickly cough.(no worse than your average cold, to be honest). The doc reckons it's swine flu because we've had direct contact with at least one confirmed case (we live in a small, close community).
we've been told to isolate ourselves for up to a week, including the DCs who've yet to show any symptoms.
Frankly that's the biggest pain of the lot- trying to keep two bored, confined kids entertained. .
Just wanted to moan, really.

You have my sympathy! I remember chicken pox quarantine with 2 year old twins... there's only so much crayoning, glueing, sticking, painting, play doh and CBeebies you can stand before your brain melts and starts dribbling out of your ears!

I feel your pain and think that must be a nightmare! However, I find the whole swine flu thing really confusing. There are several threads about it on here and everyone seems to have been given different advice. On one thread, someone is complaining (rightly) that friends who have swine flu came to visit them yesterday. Someone else was told to take a very sick child to A&E becasue the doctor wouldn't do a home visit, two children at our school have it(probably more, actually) and I see their mum still in the playground dropping off her older son. So what is the point of putting some people in quarantine if others are merrily spreading it around the community?

it is madness,ds is suspected to have had it and dd2 si on tamiflu at the min..with I think dd1 following if todays mood and cough is anything to go by. DS is in school but I arranged for FIL to do picking up and dropping off. In Ds school some people were told by gps to stay isolated for 2wks, some for 1 wk I was told 5 days for dd2 while it runs it course. So all different advice in the same area!!

YABU I'm afraid. I know it's a pain, but some people have a crap immune system or it would really screw their health to get it, so it's not fair to just go about your business just because you don't feel too bad with it yourself.

i don't think i'd let anyone know if i had it. couldn't cope with that.

Sea, would you then still visit others/allow them to visit you, knowing full well they may catch it?

I don't blame you for finding it an arse-ache. Can you order lots of lovely Tesco.com shopping? Including stuff for the kids to keep them busy? It's a good excuse to spend spend spend!

Blinder - I live at an RAF base in Cyprus, unfortunately Tesco (or anyone else for that matter) don't deliver this far!

Our LEA advice is that the affected person should stay home, but everyone else's lives should go on as normal.

So we have several cases at achool, but siblings (much to their fury) are still at school.

Day 4 of swine flu isolation here.

Started Friday with Ds, now today DD has it.

Luckily they have mild cases of it, but they complain they're bored, I find them something to amuse them, then the next minute they're temperature's rise and all they want to do is lay down.

Agree with conflicting advice, Gp's aren't swabbing here - all diagnosed over the phone.

I have allowed them into the garden, they've had no contact with neighbours, but within a couple of minutes they want in again anyway,lol.

My main concern is the fact that we are flying off on our hol's on Sunday, mentioned this to my Gp on the phone - her reply was we'll be fine and just to enjoy our holiday!

Luckily we're staying in an isolated Farmhouse, but we do have to fly there. I'm just hoping Dp and I are spared it, a sDc's hopefully will be better by then.

Interesting, Seeker. My friend has it and is in isolation. She has been told to keep her children home from school, however her DH is still allowed to go to work.

I do sympathise with anyone who has to stay holed up with kids, BUT it's worth it.

I was in a school last week where a child had died from swine flu. Teachers, children and parents all devastated. Yes, there were 'underlying health issues' - and thousands and thousands of parents must be worried sick that this flu could kill their disabled child who has respiratory difficulties because of low muscle tone, their child with a heart condition, children in remission fom leaukaemia...

Stay in quarantine and be feel that you are doing your bit to prevent the loss of another vulnerable child.
