friends visit knowing they have swine flu

AIBU to be p#### off with a fairly new friend visiting us today knowing she has been sick all week with swine flu , i have other health problems & my ds has asthma , she knows about our health problems ,

YANBU, I'd be hugely cross and would make sure she knows it, highly irresponsible in the circumstances.

she should have given you the choice to say yes or not to their visit, and told you they had swine flue. especially as you have underlying problems

was she diagnosed with it? definitely swine flu?

Did she call before she came to see if it was convenient? If so then you could have told her not to come, and if she didn't then she is being highly unreasonable to visit.

thanks wykenblynkenandnod , im worried sick now as they were here for 5 hours
her dp was sneezing & coughing & must have taken his jumper off & on about 5 times
i did ask them why were they not staying in until they were over it & they laughed & said it was ok because they were starting to feel a little better

Did she come in, sit down, accept a cuppa and THEN tell you she had swine flu? If so, then YANBU and at her

Or did you know beforehand/do you THINK she had swine flu? In which case you are Nana from Catherine Tate

YANBU - how rude and thoughtless - unless she doesn't realise that you and your DS are at higher risk. I think some people are getting a bit blase about it now but as you suggest some groups are definately at higher risk.

When did they tell you they had swine flu?

Afraid as soon as they told me i'd have said 'well you need to go then' and i'd have explained why.

And if they were droppers in - well honestly - i hate people who drop-in a the best of times

hi , lulu she text asking if it was ok to pop over but never mentioned she was sick ,
& yes she was definitely diagnosed with it
wondering now how long will it take for symptoms to show up if we have caught it
god i hope the dc's dont get it

I hope your dc don't get it. We've just had it and although not life-threatening it is very nasty.

That's awful. I read today about the first case in Britain of someone dying from swine flu that didn't have underlying health problems too.

you might not get it (and I hope you don't)

we had some maintenance people in at work, I went in early to let them in, shook the blokes hand every day, spoke to him and he was in for about a week (and it turned out he had swine flu!) and I didn't get it . So maybe you won't.

But yes, that is piss poor tbh.

I understand you are furious (I would be)

What I don't understand is why people who are infected are reassured once and again that there is no need to lock themselves in their own houses until they are ok

ha greensleeves nana , no she text me said nothing , they all came over , i made tea etc & then commented that she looked a bit pale that's when she told me , i reminded her of our health problems & she just grinned & said "AH I AM STARTING TO FEEL A BIT BETTER"
they went to the cinema this morning & when i looked shocked they laughed

My friend works for a very well known high street retail chain and her youngest DS was diagnosed with Swine Flu on Fri. She was told to sign a waiver that she had been "in contact with" someone with SF and is expected to turn up for every shift as normal

maybe they thought that it was mild, better not to panic etc.. whihc i do agree with BUT stil should have offered you the choice to decline their visit, esp iwth an asmathic child

no lulumama , she said she has never had a dose like it & for the 1ast 4 days she was bedridden today was her first day out & she was diagnosed 6 days ago .

did she have a blood test to confirm it was swine flu. Doctors tbh seems to be listing people as having suspected swine flu if they have a number of symptoms.

is interesting how different behaviour and advice is. ds has had suspected swine flu, doc spoke to me on phone and no tamiflu as no other health prob.

fwiw two2 ds caught it from cm's asthmatic ds (they are both 4), they were both ill for a couple of days but not too bad. no adults have got it from them at all, so it does seem to be true re children being more susceptible.

FabBaker, tbh I didn't ask, I just assumed it was a kind of admission she'd be in contact with it. It means bugger all and she has 3 other kids too so to me its like a hothouse of lurgys in her house

YANBU!

My DD2 (20 months) has just been diagnosed with swine flu and is taking tamiflu. The rest of us have no symptoms so far and have been told to carry on as normal. We have all stayed in all day today and myself and 2 DD's will stay home until ALL symptoms have gone, hubby will go to work as usual unless he shows any signs of having it. People are just so selfish sometimes, I would be furious in your position.

Fingers crossed you don't get it.

so sorry to hear lots of your dc's are sick , poor little ones
just checked out the symptoms online & apparently you can still be contagious for 7 days after your symptoms cease ,
