To never want to fly again

Rapidly developing a phobia of flying. Really don't feel it's safe and if I know I have to fly I tend to dread the holiday rather than looking forward to it. I have to fly for work from time to time which I mind less than flying with DS 15 months as I just feel so responsible for his little life. Should I pull myself together and get on with it or stick to my gut and not fly again unless I absolutely have to?

I am ressurecting this thread yet again because I have another long haul flight to take and am terrified. Does anyone know if you can take valium if you are breastfeeding?

Is there something in particular that set off your phobia? I'm sorry, I've not read all 4 pages, but have you considered hypnotherapy? My MIL is a hypnotherapist and she's successfully treated loads of people that were previously terrified. Sorry, don't know the answer about valium.

I adore flying, but didn't always. When I had my kids I was on a plane and had a panic attack like you read in womens magazines - tight band around my chest, couldn't breath, heart beating furiously. I went into the loo (somehow the enclosed space calmed me down) but the flight was shit and it put me off for a long time. It was when I had kids that I got that fear - before that I loved it and even had a very bumpy flight to africa that I thought was thrilling.

In the middle of my FOF I went to Neals Yard and got a remedy - I'm really sorry but I don't remember what it was. I thought it was probably nonsense but took it anyway - it worked! I don't care how but it did. You'll probably find it on Neals Yard blurb - and it wouldn't interfere with bf.

tbh if you hate it that much then don't put yourself through it. The eco crowd will thank you for it (but give me your ticket - I'll fly for you! Best part of the hol for me!)

Years ago I worked as a cabin crew member. Back then I was fearless and jumped on flights like buses. Over the years I have developed a terrible fear of flying and have taken drink, prescription drugs and therapy to overcome it. I don't fly as often as I'd like to but I will not let it put me off altogher. I would definitely recommend therapy as I do believe it helped me a little. I really believe it's mind over matter.

YANBU

I'm fine flying by myself but I get nervous if I have one of the DS's with me.

Worse still is being a single parent flying with 2 children. I always torture myself with that 'Sophie's choice' dilemma, being a cheerful soul and all that :)

< disclaimer: I read the first page of the thread and could not be arsed to read the rest; I may have repeated an earlier statment >
