to be very pissed off with this babysitter

I just hired her (she is supposed to be a kindergarten teacher) I was spending the day with them today to see how they got on. After 1 hour I went in the shower and came out to find she had left and my kids (3 and 5) were alone in the living room.

My 5 year old said "she has gone home because DS2 was misbehaving"
I took my phone out to call her and there was a message from her saying she had left because ds2 had been throwing pencils at her and she was angry WTF.

Just be marginally pissed off and then be very grateful you haven't hired her to look after your childre.

She obviously doesnt know how to control 'lively' children, was she from an agency? can you ring to complain?

It is real unfortunately

II am thanking my lucky stars but when I texted her back saying she was really unprofessional she just replied she was angry. I am and pissed off because she seemed good when I interviewed her earlier this week but obviously has no clue about how to deal with kids.

The kindergarted she worked for is in spain so calling them would not be very useful.

no I live abroad no concept of agencies here I posted an add recieved CV and took it from there. This is the first time I have hired a sitter and honsetly it has scared me for life I think it just keeps going through my mind what if she had been "angry" while I was not there....

yes she had references but all were from different countries abroad where she had been travelling and working. The kindergarten she said she worked for was closed for the summer holidays and she said she was a babysitter for a family in Italy which i didnot check up (I will be much more careful next time )

Well, i think you were VERY unlucky, not terrible mum.

But i would check references very carefully in the future.

Thank God your children are ok, thats the main thing!

You didn't really leave them as such and tbh I would give her the benefit of the doubt (not that it matters anymore) and assume she wouldn't have walked out if you weren't there.

Obviously any reasonable person would have waited till you were out of the shower or at least shouted through the door.

I'm imagining if you ever interview again you will have some new questions to ask potential babysitters.

I think all you can do is thank your lucky stars that she let you down without your children coming to any harm. You are not a terrible mother, I have lived abroad and gone through the rigmarole of trying to find babysitters. It's difficult enough if you don't speak the language of the country you are in, let alone trying to navigate the various languages in which this travelling band of babysitters (there seems to be one in every expat community) present their references in.

thanks annh it has been more difficult here than in anyother place I have live to find a suitable babysitter (I have only been here for 4 weeks) and that is saying something as I have lived in 3 countries not includig britian in the last 6 years.
But I could have never have imagined that someone would actually walk out without at least telling me first.

YAtotallyNBU!! What an idiot she is. Don't know what country you live in now but when I grew up in Belgium my parents found english/ english speaking babysitters through adverts in the local british magazines and through other parents recommendations at the international school. All were lovely. Hopefully you can find similar.
