To be puzzled that the "heatwave" is such a big deal?

I heard on the radio yesterday and im not entirely sure if i heard correctly, that the government are thinking of issueing leaflets a la swine flu, on how to keep safe in the heat wave.

Really? Do we really need to be told

Sun block, sun hat, if you are too hot, go indoors, shut curtains, open window bla bla bla..............

FFS, its hot - its uncomfortable if you have to work in it, but its not exactly any hotter than it has been any other year.

I don't get it.

News shocker - snow in winter, now hot in summer!

I do think it's a bit overhyped.

Yes it's hot and sticky.

Yes some groups need to be more careful than others.

But it's hardly outrageous temperatures. If the temperature was in the 40s I could understand the hysteria but it's what, 30?

It would seem like common sense but we see so little sun that some people forget common sense. The evidence was very visible during a quick trip into town today. And you miss the one that kills most people - drink plenty of fluids and not tea, coffee, cola or other caffinated drinks or alcohol. Biggest cause of problems is dehydration and most people think that drinking tea or coffee is ok when actually they dehydrate more.

But do get your point. Better uses of public money. Would you go for a quick message on news or woudl that still be too much?

dideinsteinsmum - yes, thats a good point re the hydration. However i think people tend to be pretty rubbish about drinking enough water generally.

A quick "reminder" on the news is fine. Anything else smacks of the "nanny state"

I got interviewed in the park this week by a reporter from some 'yoof' tv station on 'tips to cope with the heatwave'. So I have now been broadcast on some obscure internet channel giving people the gob-smacking news that it helps to drink lots of water and make sure your kids have a sun hat on. Crrrringe!
