to be upset with my treatment??

I am 8 weeks pregnant and teach a class where two children have just had slap cheek.

I went for blood tests last week and phoned this morning for the results. They asked me to call back at 2:30 as my doctor wasn't in yet to look at them.

So I call back to be told that my doctor has left a note to say that the midwife needs to call me first thing in the morning.

This really worried me so I asked to speak to my doctor but was told she had left for the day.

The recepionist didn't really help as she said "it would be better to wait and speak to an expert????"

Am I over worrying??

hmmm - if it is then an overnight wait whilst aggravting/upsetting isn't going to make any difference to the diagnosis or treatment IYSWIM

it is a bit rubbish that no-one could get themselves together to tell you today

The receptionist may not know what's in your notes - she may be trotting out a standard line to you - try not to worry (easier said than done, I know)

At our health centre, the policy is that receptionists are not allowed to give out blood results at all. Probably the same for this woman, although i thought her words were a little inappropriate.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and hope everything works out ok. The vast majority of adults ahve had the slapped cheek virus as a child or teenager and never even knew so there is a very good chance you are one of them.

At our surgery the receptionists do not have access to the main notes, only the sub notes we add to blood test results for them.

I've often asked out nurses to ring first thing when it's just before the weekend if I know the patient is likely to be worrying - even when the results are normal as it leaves us all day to try again to contact them rather than leaving it til monday. It may just ve something as simple as that. Fingers crossed for you.

PS. if there is any chance you might miss the call make sure your answerphone hs your full name on it as if it is anonymous most doctors won't leave a message incase the wrong person gets it (confidentiality).

Hi thanks ladies. In the end on Friday morning I had a TEXT messgage (??!!) from a midwife to say she was covering my midwifes hoilday and that my test had been sent to a new hospital and the results would be another week!! Great.......only another week to worry.......morning sickness as well, all day and all night......beginning to regret having another baby at the moment
