to think BIL is being unfair ?

Niece has an over bite, quite a bad one. BIL makes her hide it, by closing her mouth over her top teeth, and it's obvious it is difficult for her

Even in photos, instead of her beautiful smile it's a glum face because she's been told to cover her top teeth.

Poor child, YANBU.

So

weblette · 29/06/2009 10:58

Yanbu.

Instead of being vile about it why doesn't he see a dentist about trying to correct it?

Claire2009 · 29/06/2009 11:08

She's been to the dentist, they can't do anything until her adult teeth come through, and then braces.

I just feel so sad for her right now he's put pics on Fb and she looks so glum.

Oh poor thing

bamboostalks · 29/06/2009 11:23

Can't you speak to his wife? Is that your sister? This is so unkind and strange.

MrsTittleMouse · 29/06/2009 11:25

He is a loony. I had an overbite - I still do, except that I had lots of orthodontics to lessen it. I couldn't have closed my mouth like that if I'd wanted to. And why would I want to? Is he ashamed of her?

5inthebed · 29/06/2009 11:27

YANBU, poor girl
It really annoys me when parents go on like this with their DC. It isn't as if she can help having an overbite! It would be like me telling my two older DS's to keep a hat on to hide their ginger hair!

Claire2009 · 29/06/2009 11:28

I will speak with my Sister (his wife) when they come back from holiday. She doesn't like him telling her to close her mouth, but hasn't said anything still...

I think he thinks she will be bullied at school (she's not) with the overbite, so this is his way of protecting her. I'm not sure, Sister & him both have an overbite themselves, and both their children have quite bad ones.

If she's going to get bullied in school it will happen whether she closes her mouth or not. In fact, closing her mouth will draw attention to it. Poor little mite.

But you know all that. I would bet that he was bullied about it in high school. I was because of my overbite (and braces).

Poor little girl. Tell her she is beautiful and has a lovely smile.
