to be very, very glad that Jo Whiley isn't one of the mums at our school's gates?

She's too perfect. I have read two interviews with her in the last few days and I would end up avoiding all contact with her if she was at the school gates. She shares a bed with her kids (odd, certainly, but they all snuggle up lovingly apparantly), her daughter was present at the birth of her youngest, they all sat in one Sunday afternoon and played Monopoly together, then had a lovely Sunday lunch. We stayed in, fought constantly, one was sent to bed early and we had beans on toast (honestly). She also has Chris Martin on speed dial. Sigh. She's a supermum and I would bitch about her at coffee mornings.

OP posts:
IkeaSnake · 29/06/2009 22:39

Cassisu is such a shit name
why am i envious of her?

cornsilk · 29/06/2009 23:08

She dresses up as Spiderman to pick her kids up from school. Are you still envious?

NotKeenOnFish · 29/06/2009 23:16

she rocks and has a very cool life for a mum of four

bronze · 29/06/2009 23:18

bitchy part of me wonders whether Coco Lux (wtf) came along so she could keep in with the fashion among slebs for babies at the moment.

I have fond memeories of her days with Steve Lamacq

LupusinaLlamasuit · 29/06/2009 23:19

And FGS at all the people horrified at her 17yo being at the birth.

What a fantastic experience for a kid clearly old enough to decide whether she wanted to or not, and to understand what is going on. That isn't controlling, it is evidence of a family quite relaxed about bodies and with its head on straight about stuff.

And you're all prudes.

saintmaybe · 30/06/2009 08:08

Turn off at 10?

I can only put radio 1 on at 10 when the vile brutish Moyles has finished

Come send your kids to our school, Jo

We could chat at 3pm about how your show went this morning

Or the Arctic monkeys v last shadow puppets

Or the dangers at 40+ of quirky fashion sense straying dangerously into eccentricity (my own current worry)

We could be a clique

UnquietDad · 30/06/2009 11:08

I quite liked her when she used to do "The Oyvening Session" wiv "Stoyve Lamacq". That was fine. She was 23. She could get away with being cool and immature. In recent years, though, she has attempted to continue trying to show she is cool and immature. Which is annoying.

lowrib · 30/06/2009 11:25

FGS sake get a life you lot. Jo Whiley is lovely.

Are people really this shallow?

It's a very British thing this, someone does well and everyone wants to knock them down. Which is shit.

I'd love to meet someone like Jo Whiley at the school gates.

UnquietDad · 30/06/2009 11:34

We often hear this about the British, but i don't necessarily think it is true, is it? We don't want to knock down everyone who has been successful. We just think it's fair enough to subject them to critical (ironic) scrutiny.

Walkingwiththighosaurs · 30/06/2009 11:35

Coco Lux, WTF? Sounds like some sort of exotic soap by Chanel

fleetwoodmac · 30/06/2009 11:37

if she co-sleeps with her children - fantastic is say. and if she's a fab, uber-mummy - great too (if she's got a nice husband, lots of money and a part-time job, it helps)

but as a presenter - ooohhh - all that monotonous, flirty, vacuousness gets on my nerves. i get the impression she just tries to overpower people with her non-stop talking. it always sounds so flat and passionless too.

lowrib · 30/06/2009 11:47

"Coco Lux, WTF? shock Sounds like some sort of exotic soap by Chanel" (just one example) - that's not ironic UnquietDad that's bitchy

UnquietDad · 30/06/2009 12:38

lowrib - excuse me, I didn't say that.

MrsSpringsteen · 30/06/2009 20:44

imho wimmin are their own worst enemy

pretty successful 40 something mums of many 'ROCK'

pointydog · 30/06/2009 20:49

monopoly always causes fights. Fact.

cupcakesinthesnow · 30/06/2009 20:55

Her eldest daughter has massive teen tantrums. She has said so in other interviews.

lowrib · 30/06/2009 22:15

No, UnquetDad you did not say that. It was the most recent post when I looked and I was using it as an example of the generally bitchy tone of a lot of the posts. You see?

I took the OP as quite tongue in cheek, there was actually a compliment or two in there for Jo Whiley. But a lot of the posts since are just unnecessarily bitchy.

I mean "She dresses up as Spiderman to pick her kids up from school. Are you still envious?"

Why the fuck not?

Lucky kids, she sounds great.

Haven't read any of the thread, but listened to her on Women's Hour a few weeks ago, and she was discussing her sister who has very dependent special needs and her parents, who are getting on a bit, are taking care of her full time. She was speaking as a sister, daughter and then in the interview as a mother.

I respect her.

I like jo whiley

her sister has cri du chat syndrome. JW does quite a lot of stuff to support(her sister / charities - does loads of fundraising stuff)

JW's also a carrier of it (cdcs)and had quite a hard time in her pregancies / gone through an testing

She's spoken out about this on various occaisions

toddlerama · 30/06/2009 22:42

I wonder if she uses a mooncup?

toddlerama · 01/07/2009 11:30

I am a thread assassin.

MamaLazarou · 01/07/2009 11:45

She is hideous with tiny eyes. I could not possibly be jealous of her.

splodge2001 · 01/07/2009 13:12

I am cooler than her - am sitting in home made music studio/bedroom with porridge stained bra and un matching knickers (unmatched 4 both porridge stainage and intrinsic colour) with 12wk dd asleep behind me. Not caring one bit about Jo Whiley - oh yeah baby
