to be very, very glad that Jo Whiley isn't one of the mums at our school's gates?

She's too perfect. I have read two interviews with her in the last few days and I would end up avoiding all contact with her if she was at the school gates. She shares a bed with her kids (odd, certainly, but they all snuggle up lovingly apparantly), her daughter was present at the birth of her youngest, they all sat in one Sunday afternoon and played Monopoly together, then had a lovely Sunday lunch. We stayed in, fought constantly, one was sent to bed early and we had beans on toast (honestly). She also has Chris Martin on speed dial. Sigh. She's a supermum and I would bitch about her at coffee mornings.

Ditto ProfYaffle! I'm also an only child and did the same as you with the houses and cars, and lost half of them of course! I remember being looked at pityingly by friends' parents at their houses, because "the poor only child doesn't know how to play board games"... PSML!

steviesgirl · 29/06/2009 15:18

YABU. I like Jo Whiley and she's certainly NOT perfect. She had a tipple too many at Glastonbury the other night. She was struggling to present!

orangina · 29/06/2009 15:21

Wasn't she papped wearing jimmy choo wellies at glastonbury?

i hate that kind of smug lazy journalism. and the assumption that anyone cares about what she and her family do.

Bah humbug.

ProfYaffle · 29/06/2009 18:01

Lol,pispirispis glad it's not just me! I still can't stand bored board games, don't see the attraction

bluejeans · 29/06/2009 19:11

I like her - used to listen to her on the radio years ago when I was on mat leave and she used to mention her eldest who was a toddler then. Think she has done well to keep that slot - and having lots more babies!

RubberDuck · 29/06/2009 19:18

I got a preview copy of her autobiography and I enjoyed it a lot actually (didn't know much about her before though tbh).

She worked damn hard to get where she did at a time where there were very few female DJs (keeping her job after having children sounded pretty near miraculous in that culture). She has a very loving and supportive family which helps a lot of course. To me, she came across as sincere and very passionate about everything she does.

I walked past her at Glastonbury. In the flesh she is very small and rather squinty. She annoys me for many reasons, the principle one being her ostentatious shoe-lessness. I don't understand people who make a point of going innapropriately barefoot. It's such a lazy route to quirkiness.

She isn't that nice either. There is quite a well know piece of footage of her on You-TUbe, being horrible to some Radio1 listeners who had won a competition to accompany her backstage somewhere.

And she thinks the Arctic Monkeys are good.

IkeaSnake · 29/06/2009 19:51

JemL
lol at shoelessness

god she better not have cracked heels - see other thread.

yes i supppose we must applaud a woman who Gets Ahead but less with the " i have a perfect life"

mind you we all slagged old GMTV girl when she whinged about workign didnt we.

So do we like ANYONE>?
or need thet all to just SHUT UP

bluebump · 29/06/2009 19:54

I've never really liked her that much but when she had just had either her 2nd or 3rd child and had come back to work I remember laughing when she was on the radio. She was mucking up her words and pressing buttons wrong and she said she was sorry for being so rubbish but she had had a small child attached to her boob for most of the night and hadn't got much sleep.

I thought she was looking really good at Glastonbury, I have one child to her four and i'm a good 10 years younger and she still looks better.

RubberDuck · 29/06/2009 19:55

The YouTube footage of her being horrible to the listeners was a spoof/deliberate set up with her playing along, btw.

JemL · 29/06/2009 20:05

RubberDuck - I didn't know that - someone sent me a link to it who doesn't like her either, so assumed it was real!!

Still don't like her though

chevre · 29/06/2009 20:10

her kitchen is v. like mine. i like to think she copied me.

i hate monopoly.

MrsSpringsteen · 29/06/2009 21:25

why cant i see her kitchen? where do you all SEE this ?

re shoe less ness i do it. I love it and am always shoe less in summmer at home inside and out. sometimes i have been known to forget and have to go round tesco barefoot - it is cold but certainly not fake

Merrylegs · 29/06/2009 21:35

I have no idea about her uber-mumsiness, or her monopoly playing prowess, or her general all round co-sleeping skills, but WRT her Dj-ing 'skills' - I find her inarticulate, sycophantic and just very very muddled.

icedgemsrock · 29/06/2009 21:38

she pouts too much for my liking!
alestorm - why was she a knob, what did she do - tell us more.

Ronaldinhio · 29/06/2009 21:43

milk for any old vipers?

she looked great at Glasto and has for years

is publicly a MUM who loves being a mum
looks great and it's amazing that Radio 1 still gives her airtime considering her age and their chosen demographic

very against the Chris Martin friendship

MrsSpringsteen · 29/06/2009 21:49

to be honest if i was an uber mum / high flying career woman in the public domain like Jo - i would be delighted to be slated on here.

Mumsnetters can be terribly jealous

jemart · 29/06/2009 21:50

yabu - Jo Whiley is cool.

luckywinner · 29/06/2009 21:54

yabu i heart jo whiley and you are all sounding v .

LupusinaLlamasuit · 29/06/2009 21:57

Jeez and at all the Whiley nastiness here!

Fuck me, if I looked like her at 40-summat, I'd make sure I was at Glasto on the telly too.

I heard her on R4 the other day promoting her autobiography (hence the PR). God what a childhood. Her sister has SN and is still cared for by her parents. The sister had a genetic condition one symptom of which was not sleeping at all. The family had to live through many horrific nights.

I'd imagine, growing up in that environment, going to work as a muso DJ with a child she pretty much had to keep quiet about, she hopefully doesn't give too much of a fig what others think about her.

But, actually, I admire her.

Noonki · 29/06/2009 21:58

she has terrible terrible taste in music I always have to turn over at 10am.

She comes across as a lovely mum though.

D14 · 29/06/2009 22:11

I've never ever played monopoly though DS1 has just been given my first monolpoly - I'm off to hide it after reading this!!!

I really like Jo Whiley and whoul also like to have her life (though I might have to check out her DH before I make the swap)

fucksticks · 29/06/2009 22:24

is coco a boy or a girl?
what are her other kids called?

D14 · 29/06/2009 22:37

Children are India, Jude, Cassius, Coco Lux according to wiki - no hints as to which are boys and which are girls though - some are more obvious I suppose
