to want to tell people to cover up their cracked heels and acres of hard yellowing skin?

now that we have all gone tightless and sockless....

it is just revolting when you see a made-up woman then get to her feet and see acres of white/yellow/grey hard skin on her heels.

Have they never heard of footfiles and foot cream?

Well i'm 35 mrsmerryweather and i hadn't heard it until recently - maybe your grandma invented the term 'bingo wings' and it all runs in the family.

I stand by my post.

Am I the only one who can't help but read mrsmerryweather's posts in a Hyacinth Bucket voice?

expatinscotland · 28/06/2009 22:00

it doesn't talk half an hour a day to slap some Flexitol on your feet and do a bit of minor grooming.

EightiesChick · 28/06/2009 22:03

Wish I'd had the 'look after your back and feet' advice. Mine are both fucked. And who knew doing your pelvic floors was important to save your back as well as all the other benefits? Not me, till now

It was some of the best advice I've gotten, Eighties. That poor lady's back was shot - herniated discs, another slipped disc. Ow.

If we wore shoes inappropriate for standing all shift she'd mention it to us.

She was forever chiding us to do calf stretches and toe-touches on breaks and ankle circles.

Poor gal had been through loads of physio.

OrmIrian · 28/06/2009 22:09

I don't like the concept of 'grooming'. I am not a fucking horse

If I am clean, dressed and my hair is reasonably tidy I think that is quite enough. Anyone who demands more is really a bit odd and quite unreasonable. When I make small children scream and run away I will worry. If I am simply upsetting women in supermarket queues I can live with it.

OrmIrian · 28/06/2009 22:12

But hey if it will make you happy I'll take a carving knife to the skin on my heels. Seems a shame when it means I can walk barefoot on gravel without pain.

I always paint my toenails etc. BUT I don't think the soles of our feet are meant to be soft really are they? Think about it logically.

Some of the people I love most in the world have disgusting feet. I cant help it but ewwwwww!

My dear mum has vile feet. And she always wears sandals. My lovely OH who is actually a bit of a looker in all other ways - well ick ick ick.

He grew up wearing his brothers' old shoes (youngest of 12 kids) then joined the army. Those factors added to genetically odd feet have given him troll feet.

When we first started living together he used to cut off all the dead skin and leave it where it fell. I walked into the bathroom (very small, no window) on day and the bath was full of dead skin (well not full but there was a big pile). I was so sick. I feel quite queer just thinking about it now. I couldnt go in the bathroom all day.

It took ages before he conceded that it was a disgusting habit. Now if I approach when he is 'doing' his feet he shouts 'Go away, go away, my feet,my feet' or something similar. Its only taken him about 20 years

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 28/06/2009 22:45

I've heard that plastic bags over the Vaseline, then the socks, is very effective - but I never seem to bring myself to do it.

And I agree that any softening effect from filing and creaming is only temporary.

Also, being exposed to the air (as in summer sandals) exacerbates the dryness - vicious circle.

PuppyMonkey · 29/06/2009 08:42

I have terrible feet no matter what I do re moisturising and grinding the dry skin off or whatever. I don't wear bad shoes either, always quite sensible. I go to chiropodist and it's back to the same three weeks later. I'm just genetically disposed to have ugly feet, sorry if that causes offence. I think it also stems from when I used to walk three miles to school and back when I was young. Old fogey emoticon.

But I never wear skimpy flip flops in summer, only shoes/sandals that can hide the bad bits.

I wonder do people look at the OP in supermarket queues and assess how ugly different parts of her body are. Hope so.

Botbot · 29/06/2009 08:55

Mine are a bit manky, despite filing and flexitol twice a day. Nice to know that there's one more thing that I'm being judged on

OK, I haven't made it through the whole thread but given that I get up at 6am, go to bed at midnight, and don't stop inbetween, I find time for showering, deodorant, teeth brushing and hair brushing and that is it. Yes my heels are dry and cracked (probably because I only wear shoes when I absolutely have to) and yes if I could find 3 mins a day I might be able to improve them, but the same goes for my (clean and trimmed) unpainted toenails and fingernails, moisturising, getting my hair cut more often, shaving my legs every day instead of only when I can no longer stand it, and the rest.... it would all add up to about 30 mins a day which I do not have.

but don't you want them nice for YOU, SC?

mrsmerryweather · 29/06/2009 12:28

Stealth- anyone can find 3 mins a day- you are making excuses.

OP posts:
stealthsquiggle · 29/06/2009 12:30

But that is my point, MrsMW - if I found 3 mins a day for all the things you would say 'anyone can find 3 mins a day' for it would be at least 30mins a day. Which I can't find (or, more accurately, could only find by not doing things which are more important, like spending time with my DC or earnign a living).

I actually find that I don't need to do the filing/moisturising/vaseline/socks thing that often. I mostly keep my feet looking ok by moisturising them after my bath/shower, just as I moisturise my face/hands etc. Only takes seconds then.

And I do karate (sometimes on gravel ) so it's not like I've got pampered feet or anything!

MumtoCharlieandLola · 29/06/2009 12:42

And as for women who don't shave their armpits !!! Eugh !
