to want to tell people to cover up their cracked heels and acres of hard yellowing skin?

now that we have all gone tightless and sockless....

it is just revolting when you see a made-up woman then get to her feet and see acres of white/yellow/grey hard skin on her heels.

Have they never heard of footfiles and foot cream?

"If that is the case, why waste time posting on MN because I bet you spend more time on MN than it would take to tend to your feet"

Lol, good point - that's why I don't do it all that often.

Going off on a tangent here, but to all you runners who have posted, you do NOT have to put up with hard/sore feet and black toenails etc.

I love running and over the years and had plenty of blisters, hard spots, black toenails (they actually tended to fall off after a marathon), etc. I thought it was just part and parcel of being a runner, as so many other runners complained about similar complaints. Then I did a bit of research about getting the right type of running shoe, and now I have feet that would meet mrsmerryweather's approval.

It's amazing the difference the right shoes make. I only paid £25 for mine on Ebay (new, not used), far less than what I've paid in the past for some shoes, but this time they are the right ones for me. Always get a shoe half a size bigger than your normal shoe size, keep your toenails religiously short, and make sure you buy decent sport socks that absorb sweat properly. To protect your knees and spine, it's worth remembering that it's better to buy cheaper and more often than more expensive but make them last.

Also, did you know that you feet can change size throughout the course of your lifetime? It's worth having your feet remeasured from time to time. My friend has gone from a 7 to an 8 in the last 5 years, while I've gone from a 5 in my early 20s to a 4 now that I'm 33!

I don't have an obsession about feet, honestly , and I really don't care what other people's feet look like. Thought I'd better add that...

Agree about running shoes optimist. I found some that are perect for me but I don't care what all these running shops say you can only know whether they are going to be good by wearing them for a few weeks. Which gets expensive if you are paying 80squids a pair! Mine were 25 from a discounted Adidas branch, they are mens and a size too big but they are the best I've ever had. My hard skin comes entirely from walking round with bare feet for years on all kinds of ground.

spokette · 01/07/2009 11:37

I buy my trainers from a specialist running shop and always buy a size bigger because feet expand as they get hot.

I tend not to get blisters etc.

OMG- hmc- is the oxygen low up there in your ivory tower?

What an arrogant post - glad that Spokette put her point across so well.

Sorry, but I refuse to subscribe to this "I am so intelligent and busy that I just don't have time to look after my appearance".

I am supposedly gifted (?) in terms of my IQ, I run a company, have 2 other part time jobs as well, plus 2 DCs....

No one is ungroomed because of lack of time...it's about lack of motivation. Most grooming takes a couple of minutes- no longer than cleaning your teeth - once you get into the habit and do it regualrly.

I don't know quite what it is about this thread, but it's making me want to never tend to my heels again, and to stride around the city in my birkenstocks displaying hooves like an old mountain goat's.
