to want to tell people to cover up their cracked heels and acres of hard yellowing skin?

mrsmerryweather · 27/06/2009 19:27

now that we have all gone tightless and sockless....

it is just revolting when you see a made-up woman then get to her feet and see acres of white/yellow/grey hard skin on her heels.

Have they never heard of footfiles and foot cream?

I file my feet every bloody night.
I moisturise them twice a day.
They are still awful and I hate it.

expatinscotland · 29/06/2009 20:24

Well, sure, Orm. I wore flip flops today because it's rather warm and well, I like flip flops. I grew up a hot climate and I likey them.

But well, go in the shower, wash the feet, file the feet, moisturise the feet with the baby oil I put on the rest of myself because I've got dry skin on my body.

Job done.

Once a week, remove nail varnish. Cut and file toenails. Leave to air a day. Varnish again.

Job done.

Flexitol at night and socks as feet a bit fooked from frostnip.

If others find it too much time, so they do.

I'm not one who really notices, tbh, but just don't get the 'let me feet go as a badge of feminism' or 'don't have time' thing.

I can imagine cracked heels would hurt is all.

I just am a person who looks after feet because I made a deal with painful, hurt feet.

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 29/06/2009 20:36

I'd say I do look after my feet - file and Flexitol about 4 time a week - but I also do a 15 minute walk to school through woods and a field every morning and afternoon, usually in sandals. It's one of the pleasures in life that we have this lovely start and end to the school day.

As a consequence my feet get grubby.
Please advise - am I supposed to come home and soak my feet so's not to offend the heel police - ah no, of course I should be wearing full shoes, or driving everywhere to keep them fresh and soft and suitably presentable for the public glare.

OrmIrian · 29/06/2009 21:13

What is this flexitol I hear so much of? I have never had painful cracked heels but they are dry.

expatinscotland · 29/06/2009 21:26

I never soak my feet.

Flexitol is about a fiver a tube in Superdrug (it's much cheaper in Superdrug) but it's quite rich so rub it in a bit before going to bed if you can't abide sleeping with socks on.

Portofino · 29/06/2009 21:38

Hurrah, my much recommended ped egg has arrived today! Since I took my winter boots off I have been scrubbibg and rubbing on cow udder cream that dh brings home from work (don't ask) but feet have been seriously neglected for years! I think even the ped egg will need some serious time investment, but I've had a go tonigght.....

ClaireDeLoon · 29/06/2009 21:40

Portofino I have ordered a ped egg too - can't bear the thought of people standing judging me in the supermarket.

Did using it hurt?

Portofino · 29/06/2009 21:57

ompletely painelss! I'm guessing my neighbours eating dinner whilst I',m having a good scrub in the garden didn't share my enjoyment of it! [GRIN]

PortBlacksandResident · 29/06/2009 21:57

I really don't see the point of wearing socks or plastic bags on my feet in bed to have smoother feet. The payoff isn't worth it.

Who wants to shag a woman with two tesco's bags (reusable or otherwise) attached to her feet by laggy bands with socks underneath and cream under that?

It would make too much noise for a start.

expatinscotland · 29/06/2009 21:59

obviously your man isn't into sucking toes, then, porto, because then he might notice a toe wedge or two .

SoupDragon · 29/06/2009 21:59

Ped Egg doesn't hurt. Unless you are over zealous.

My feet are looking rather fine since my cheap Ebay ped egg turned up. And they were bad.

SoupDragon · 29/06/2009 22:01

If he was in to sucking toes I think he'd notice socks, carrier bags and cream too!

PortBlacksandResident · 29/06/2009 22:05

It would be like a bizarre toe lube condom.

Noonki · 29/06/2009 22:09

just ordered mine, been meaning too for ages!

mrsmerryweather · 29/06/2009 22:54

Orm-
"But I prefer not to be called revolting even so. And no I know you didn't say that expat. "

If you check my original sentence you will see that I said "it" is revolting- the "it" refers to the feet, not the person they belong to. Big difference.

OP posts:
OrmIrian · 30/06/2009 09:25

Ah! That's OK then

TheUnstrungHarp · 30/06/2009 09:49

I use Flexitol every day, am pretty scrupulous about washing my feet, and file them whenever I can bear it, but invariably after a day in London in sandals they look just as horrific as the OP describes. So sue me.

(Or maybe I need to get hold of some of that cow udder cream - tell us more, portofino. This could be the waitrose bottom butter story all over again.)

MorningTownRide · 30/06/2009 10:36

....oh and I've never plucked my eyebrows.

I am very ungroomed

GooseyLoosey · 30/06/2009 10:41

A question for those of you with soft feet. Does this mean that if you walk about bare foot outside it hurts? To me one of the greatest pleasures in life is walking around with no shoes on in the summer - presumably this is not compatible with baby soft feet?

OrmIrian · 30/06/2009 10:44

This worries me too loosey. Having said that we only have a tiny garden so it's not as if I spend a lot of time outside barefooted these days . But there's always the stream-damming and rockpool dipping when baby-soft feet would be a hindrance as far as I can see.

Walkingwiththighosaurs · 30/06/2009 10:59

I can't bear to watch the Ped egg advert, it turns my stomach, especially when they empty it into a bin! Why not put it down the toilet or something, god it is revolting.

SoupDragon · 30/06/2009 12:15

No, it doesn't hurt. There is a happy medium between baby soft feet and foul yellow hoofs (I've been at that end of the scale )

I no longer have the crusty hard bits but my feet are still robust enough to walk barefoot with no problem. They simply look more attractive now.

GooseyLoosey · 30/06/2009 12:18

LOL at "foul yellow hooves". I am now sat in my office pondering just how hoof like my feet might actually be - perhaps I should ask a colleague.

I have bad flaky skin on my feet, but no matter how much foot cream I put on it still is white and flaky, my nails are just as bad but then I have a slight liver condition (its a family thing) nothing I can do about that either. I look good other than that, I can do no more than I do now, if you don't like it then tough!
