To think my kids actually work hard at annoying me?

Just had a phone call - from a fellow MNer as it happens and for the whole of that call, I heard about one word in 3, and was so distracted that I had trouble stringing a sentence together because my kids were yelling, throwing themselves about and crash bang walloping, despite me asking/yelling/pleading for quiet.

I put the phone down - rather hastily as I heard a smash! and 2 minutes later, they decide to sit in silence on the sofa and watch cartoons!!!!! Not a peep from them since!

So is it unreasonable of me to think that they actually conspired to prevent me from having a phone conversation?

should that have been "prevent me having a phone conversation" ?? no 'from'?

I really should have listened in school

no you're not unreasonable. My children will sit in complete silence watching telly when they come home from school, only to ask me something the second I start talking to someone. My mum does it too
