To find four spelling mistakes in my six year old NEW WAY reading book - four too many?

Tonight ds teacher has decided on this new scheme to improve his 'expression'

side from being terribly dull - it has FOUR spelling mistakes - corrected in pencil by school i assume

DS tries to read the scrubbed out word and we have to explain (four times) that it is a typing error..

4 mistakes in a reading scheme is 4 too many
The school should have returned the books and asked for a refund.

YANBU, it is ridiculous.

NorbertDentressangle · 15/06/2009 20:34

How can four spelling mistakes in one book get past the proof-readers?!

What were they?

wordgirl · 15/06/2009 20:34

It's not where they've changed Fat Pig into Pat Pig is it?

New Way books are supposed to be very phonic.I wouldn't have thougt they were the best books to work on expression ?
Which book was it and what were the spelling mistakes.
We had a mistake in A storyworlds 'Frisky' book .they used 'in to', instead of 'into'

katiestar · 15/06/2009 20:56

Ha! I put 'thougt' instead of 'thought' on a thead about spelling mistakes in typed media !

PaulaYatesMum · 15/06/2009 21:00

Poetry and plays are good for developing expression, plus books with speech in them.

gagarin · 15/06/2009 21:07

Yes - the speech thing is good and a bit of rhyme? You can read together and take it in turns doing the voices...great fun...

PaulaYatesMum · 15/06/2009 22:36

thankyou for the tips will deffo look at plays

How bizarre that the school didn't send them back! One of my DC's books has a 'heard of elephants' in and it winds me up. It was a gift from someone otherwise I would have returned it.

katiestar · 16/06/2009 23:09

I think it is testament to just how boring these books are if the proof reader couldn't even be arsed to read them

smartiejake · 16/06/2009 23:11

New way is really BOOOOOORING.

My little boy fins it easier to learn buy reading poetry - I found some really good poems by a great artist Marinela Reka. Most poems are short and quick to ready with a lot of meaning;

@hecto

Did you just try to advertise your blog by resurrecting an almost decade-old thread?

If that isn't your blog, you seriously give that to a little boy to read?
