FARKIN' HELL

Deffo piss taking, surely no one cares that much about them anymore.

The Specials were . . . um . . . special 25 yrs ago though.

Molesworth · 13/06/2009 11:01

Is it the original lineup, do you know?

bellavita · 13/06/2009 11:30

Hey, I saw the Specials the first time around (free tickets as my friends dad worked at Leeds Uni ).

They were fab then....

I think it is a lot of money, but it depends on how badly you want to see them I suppose.

violethill · 13/06/2009 11:34

Actually I was expecting worse when I clicked on the link.

Not cheap, but agree with bella, depends how much you want to see them

it is ALOT imo.

I paid £25 to see Elbow.

Paid £45 tho to see the Police 2 yrs back, but it was The Police.

It depends how bad you want to go, is Terry going to be there?

JoPie · 13/06/2009 11:55

LOL. You don't know you're born! In Ireland it would be 3 times that price, easily. Miley tickets are over ?120 EACH here!!!

purepurple · 13/06/2009 13:12

Ds, avid gig-goer says he would expect to pay 15 to 20 for this gig and this price for someone like Muse

I normally go herefor the whole weekend much better value

southeastastra · 13/06/2009 13:14

no standard price nowadays, even sounds a bit cheap to me!

mumeeee · 13/06/2009 15:49

Thats around what you pay for gigs now.

cookielove · 13/06/2009 15:50

i think that is pretty reasonable

purepurple · 13/06/2009 15:57

no it's not
Billy Bragg £16

editors £18

bloc party same venue £22.50

echo and the bunnymen £18 and a much better band

OP posts:
cookielove · 13/06/2009 16:00

i've heard of no one on that list, and i have no idea who the op ones are!

but the cheapest i've got tickets is £20, and that was for dara o'brien, most gig/concerts are roughly £50 for me

I'd love to see the specials.

Not cheap but sounds OK really - they are legends - tickets will sell.

They have only just started performing together again haven't they - is this a series of one-off gigs - you might not get the chance to see them again.

purepurple · 13/06/2009 16:29

But have you been to the Empress Ballroom in Blackpool. It is tiny, your feet stick to the floor and the acoustics are not always great.
I could go and see Placebo, Nine Inch Nails for under £30 and Skunk Anansie for under £20. And only £15 for the Misfits.

I am not going to see The Specials. I am not paying that much.

OP posts:
queenrollo · 13/06/2009 16:33

to answer Molesworth - it isn't the full original line up, there is no Jerry Dammers which according to my dp who is a huge Specials fan (and music geek)means it isn't a proper re-union.
They're playing at Glastonbury so we'll pop to see them.

MrsMuddle · 13/06/2009 17:16

"Echo & the Bunnymen - a much better band"!?!?! I beg to disagree.

I'd have paid triple that to see the Specials when they were in Glasgow in April, but I couldn't get a ticket at any price. The concert has had 5-star reviews in every paper and it's probably your last chance to see them. They're all there apart from Jerry Dammers, who the rest of them seem to have fallen out with.

sweetcat · 13/06/2009 17:28

Well, for what it's worth, my DH must be one of the biggest fans of The Specials and he went to see them in May in Manchester and paid around the same as you.

Apart from Jerry Dammers it is the original line up and he says it was the best gig he has ever seen, and he is a regular gig goer.

He was only 12 when they split so was too much too young (see what I did there ) to see them then and so he would have paid a lot more.

Go on, you know you want to. I am seeing them at glastonbury, and Madness, can't wait!

Mrs Muddle, I have seen echo and the bunnymen 4 times and they never fail to please.
I saw Neville Staple a couple of years ago, and he was fantastic, so The Specials together probably would be good, but the venue is nothing great and i would not pay £35 to go.
in the words of a certain band "nobody is special"
