to expect DH to put some washing on when he's off sick?

I was off sick last week and despite tonsillitis managed to get up to date with the washing for once. DH has now come down with it (no worse than me) and has only managed to go from bed to sofa for a bit of intensive tv viewing.

It clearly hasn't even occured to him that he could be doing a few bits and pieces.

If there are any guys reading this - why are men like this?

YABU he's a man, washing up is womens work

Longtalljosie · 12/06/2009 11:41

YABU. He's ill. Tonsilitis is horrid. I've no idea how you managed to do the washing - I think that's heroic - but not compulsory.

VinegarDick · 12/06/2009 12:14

thanks for that BSW

LovelyTinOfSpam · 12/06/2009 12:19

Ah well.

I was brought up that if you're well enough to get out of bed, you're well enough to go to school/work/whathaveyou.

If he was well enough to lie on the sofa he was well enough for work.

So ner.

Stigaloid · 12/06/2009 12:34

LTOS - if it is contagious tonsilitus then he shouldn't be at work or travelling on public transport. Also - he may not be able to speak so not able to function properly at work. You seem to be made of hardier stuff than others. If he's ill a few days on sofa getting better sounds about right.

LovelyTinOfSpam · 12/06/2009 12:36

No just had right bastard parents who drilled it into me!

I still never go and watch TV when ill...

Stigaloid · 12/06/2009 12:37

Awww - now i want to hug you.

Did you ever get chicken soup?

expatinscotland · 12/06/2009 12:39

TELL HIM to do it.

Otherwise, ill or not, he won't.

expatinscotland · 12/06/2009 12:39

LovelyTinOfSpam · 12/06/2009 12:40

No chicken soup. Other soup and a little scrambled egg when rallying.

The idea that someone who had failed to attend work/school on the basis of illness could be lying happily on the sofa watching TV is abhorrant to them. Maybe they are old school

junglist1 · 12/06/2009 12:56

When I'm ill, I still have to wash, cook etc. So YANBU

spiralqueen · 12/06/2009 14:41

Reality & Over we both work, we both create as much mess/housework as each other and the overflowing washing basket is staring both of us in the face. If I can spot it needs doing surely he can too without having to be nudged? I'm not his mother FFS.

Plus if you could see the pit we fondly call home you you'd realise that I don't iron, rarely hoover and can't remember the last time everything was in its right place. If I hadn't done the washing it would still be there now and we would be having to pick stuff out of the festering pile to wear.

That said I did ask him to chuck a load in this morning.

There is quite a few bloke whisperers on here already,
just to reinforce what they said:
TELL him!

mumeeee · 12/06/2009 15:42

YABU. If I'm ill DH does not expect me to do any housework and if he is ill I don't expect him to do it either.
I don't think lying on the sofa is any differnt to laying in bed.
