I knew because mum works at the school and had told me before I collected DD, but the teacher had no way of knowing that.

DD was thumped in the eye (deliberately) by another child, it has a slight bruise to it (and they would have iced it) so it must have been reasonably hard. Especially as mum thought it was bloodshot from it too (it wasn't, that was hayfever).

DD is old enough to tell me that someone hit her. Is it really that much to ask that the teacher inform me?

She was out there at home time talking to various other parents (obv inc the child in question's mum), didn't say a word, then I saw her in the office and she actually had a random conversation with me but still didn't mention it.

I wasn't desperately bothered at the time, but it is starting to irk more now.

Is it common practise not to mention injuries like this??

I never get to hear about injuries unless there is a bumped head letter in their bag.

Out of interest , what do you fel the teacher could have added ?

Just really reassurance that x had happened and that the child in question was being dealt with.

Had I only had DD's interpretation I would just know that she had been hit - your 6 yr old coming home telling you she was deliberately thumped in the face (when she already has friend issues) isn't good.

In the infants I would have been told this, but now DS is in juniors we hardly see the teachers as you don't go right to the class door to collect them. However, we do get the bumped head letters - and I would think that a thump in the eye would be of similar concern to a bump on the head (i.e. if the children bumped heads with each other)

But honestly sometimes it is SO hard to remember the hundreds of things you have to tell parents/do for children/get ready for meeting etc etc.

If you want to know the ins and outs talk to the teacher about it on Monday.

If she is anything like me she will wake up at three in the morning in a cold sweat and remember she should have talked to you about it.

She is a very conscientious teacher who worries about everything. I won't bring it up because if she hasn't done the 3am cold sweat thing already, I know it will really upset her later. Lovely lady, good teacher but takes everything to heart.

I think I really just wanted some reassurance that it was a bit odd not to have been told tbh.

The one who did the hitting has various issues and is generally Hard Work from what I can gather, which makes me more confident that it just so happened to be my DD this day, rather than any kind of systematic bullying iyswim.

Why do we have children? Far too many worries about every bloody thing...

So sorry your DD got thumped - how awful!! We have a "head bump" policy at our school. Any knock to the head regardless of how small gets logged in an accident book immediately and the parent is informed about what happended and how the DC has been treated. This is a H&S requirement in any private organisation to have an accident book. Ask your school about adopting such a policy. You never know what the after effects are of knocks and bangs to the head.
