To think this isn't fair for ds age 5 ?

Both my ds's go to a very small school. They have been working on a whole school project. Today I learnt that my youngest, also the youngest in the school is the only child who has had his speaking part (only 4 words, but 4 words all the same),taken out of the project, so he is in it but doesn't have even a little individual part like all the rest of the children. I feel this is not treating him equally, is this being unreasonable?

It's difficult to judge without knowing why his part was taken out.

You need to ask why. Perhaps he was just not saying his words or worrying about it and they felt it was better to take the pressure off.

I can't imagine it was done unless there was a good reason.

Maybe he was finding the speaking part too nerve wracking, given he is the youngest? Maybe the teachers felt that it was in his best interests to take it out?

No,he was quite happy and said his words well, they are making a film, and needed to make it shorter, I just feel sorry for ds

YANBU Oh how ridiculous - to take out 4 words to make it shorter! How much shorter will that actually make it?

I would check the exact reason why it was taken out, in case it is what others have said and your DS is a bit nervous or something like that, and it was taken out for a good reason in his best interest.

But if it was just to shorten the play, then that is totally unfair to your DS and if it has not happened yet, I would speak to the school and ask them to put his part back in.

They are singling him out for no reason and that - especially in a small school - in unacceptable in my book.

Sheessh! Life is hard enough without things like this. Your poor ds

YANBU, if he is the only one without a speaking part and he was happy with doing it, then it is unfair.

Check though, ask the teacher. Children can get the wrong end of the stick so easily!

I don't think you've got the whole story! Just cutting 4 words out isn't going to make the film much more than a few seconds shorter.

I imagine there are others who have had their bits cut if that's the real reason.
