Just bought DS a DVD of City of Ember (great film by the way, and PG rated). Inside is a flyer for a number of DVDS including the above, two other 18 rated films, four 15 rated films and one other PG film.

I know that all of the ads are the same as those on billboards and magazines for the films when they were released, but the contents of DVDs tend to get kept and looked at more closely by kids, in my experience.

AIBU (and a bit over senstitive?) Or should the people who make these things think about what it age appropriate?

In the cinema, there is always a message that any trailers are appropriate to the age range of the feature film - would make sense to have the same guideline for DVDs IMO.

Anyone?

I don't think you're being over sensitive, although not so bad in a PG film which will usually be aimed at older kids, than a U or whatever modern equivalent is.

I guess you just have to bin the flyers.

That flier was inside either 'Enchanted' or 'Inkheart' too - and I think they were either a U or a PG.

YANBU - dd knows what porn is but having to have it in your face was more than necessary for me.

Thanks Morris and Laurie - I did bin it before DS got his hands on it. But I would have felt pretty awful if it had been a present to someone else's kid and their parents hadn't caught it.

Yes, you do not see violent trailers at U films, but it is not the case that they cannot trail higher rated films at lower rated showing, IYSWIM. As long as the trailer does not contain any inappropriate content (so the trailer is a U or PG rather than the film it is advertising) then it can be shown at a lower rated showing.

tbh your ds probbaly sees worse when he is channel hopping or on internet than an ASA approved trailer

I think parents are quite right not to want their children to have to ask 'mummy what does porno mean', and for that reason I don't like the word being used across buses.

Hardly a 'giddy aunt' issue imo.
