Am I? Am I? I paid £180 to have the skip in my driveway for 2 weeks ... it is a good six feet back from the pavement so you would have to actually come onto my drive to put something in the skip. Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!

I would be out there 24/7 with a shovel in my hand like some madwoman However, you may be lucky and have Kirsty Allsop taking stuff away from your skip

what sort of rubbish? little snack wrappers or honking great matresses?

snack wrappers (loads of them, which blow about my garden, ggrrr), pieces of wood (large and small), broken glass ...

The secret with a skip is to have the rubbish ready, have the skip for one day and fill it immediately. Dumping big stuff in someone else's skip is out of order but I think people using it as a bin as they go by is understandable - better than littering surely?

I once put a lolly wrapper in a skip on the street (carefully tucking it under something so it wouldn't blow away) The furious skip "owner" came out of her house, marched after me and handed me my wrapper back. I must admit I thought "get a life".

last time my parents had a skip.. someone kncked on the door and asked if they could have the old shed door that was in there.. well seeing as they didn't wnat it any longer.. they happily agreed.

2 days later.. the chap came back.. and knowcked on the dor again.. " you don't happen to have the key for that door do you?"

my darling parents said it had been put in the skip at the same time as the door..
so chap asked if he could have a look for it.. Took him flipping hours of shuffling round the skip searching.. much to my parents amusement! but he did in fact find the key.

with a big smile on his face he knocked on the door again.. key in hand " I found it!"

I wanted to have the skip taken away as soon as we'd filled it (about 2 hours after it arrived!) but DH insisted on keeping it for the full 2 weeks "just in case we find anything else to put in it ..." wtf???? we've just moved house, we know EXACTLY what's in our loft etc as we only moved it all a couple of weeks ago ...

As BCNS said, a few sweetie wrappers is fair enough, but people chucking massive things in it? No, no, no.

I once went after a guy (like a fish wife ) for chucking stuff in my skip. Turns out he is the local hard-man. Best thing I ever did though as no one ever put stuff in my skip again. And he took his crap back out. Well, I did, but he took it off me when I handed it back.

Is it actually taking up room in the skip that you want to use for your stuff though?

We've had two skips recently. The first attracted a creeper at 1am lifting a huge box of my shoes out and loading them into his car (I was hanging out of the window watching him squeeze the box into the back of his car) and it felt like he was stealing from me, a real violation.

This last time I had quite a few people knock on the door asking if they could take stuff - an old gate for a community allotment, three old tellies (for a 10 year old to dismantle and put back together for the sheer hell of it) and a BMX. I love it when people ask, hate it when they just take.

Me too!Had one big skip people used it and then got a second smallish one and some bastardos drove past at night and put a big smoking dustbin in it!

chillax! you have finished using it. get rid of it if you don't want anyone else using it.
