AIBU to be disappointed in cleaning company?

Employed "professional" cleaning company to clean the house and they started this week. They charge £12/hour and we live in the countryside so this is very high (London prices?!) but couldn'd find another company so agreed to 4 hours initially but refused to sign contract so I can get rid of them when I want to.

REALLY disappointed as I feel I could have done a better job myself!

Here is a list of issues:-

Insides of windows had not been touched, despite having mentioned this specifically

Surfaces in the living room were questionable

Dining table had not been cleaned properly - smears, fingermarks etc clearly visable

Floors ok but still grime in corners, especially bathrooms

Toothbrush cup should have been wiped and rinsed at least - not touched

Sofa in the playroom had not been moved and hoovered/mopped underneath/behind (wooden floor so loads of crap gets under there).

Am I expecting too much in 4 hours? House was "clean" but not WOW clean!

I wouldn't be happy with that. I'd be on the phone and cancelling..

£12 an hour is not high for a professional cleaning company. merry maids charge something in the region of £37.50 an hour, but you do get 2 cleaners for that so can do it in half the time.

How big is your house, how many people came, and how many hours did you pay for?

PolkaDotRachel · 29/05/2009 13:51

Large 3 bed, 2 bath house (but we are very clean & tody anyway so no clutter)

1 person

4 hours

£12 per hour

I have had a succession of cleaners and in the end they have never done it to a standard I was happy with.... so I sacked them and now I do it and am happy if its clean and know who to blaim (and not care so much) if its not some days...

Less than £50 to completely clean your house from top to bottom and leave it gleaming? I think YAB a wee bitU

LoveMyGirls · 29/05/2009 14:35

I had this recently with a cleaning co. I did pay them but said not to bother coming again and I now have a lovely lady who does 2 hrs every other week which is big help. I think it makes a difference when it's their name and reputation on the line.

I could be picky and point out the odd thing she hasn't done but on the whole she is fabulous.

Boobalina · 29/05/2009 14:52

Have a chat and give them another go. After the cleaner has been its hard not to wander round the house peering at everything with a pair of white gloves on.... ;)

what is a thread from 2009 doing on the first page? can someone explain

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 22/10/2014 20:39

I saw it earlier. Someone posted today advertising their cleaning company. Looks like they've been reported and deleted.
