To be a bit annoyed?

A bit of the background story here. A good friend of mine has just had her 1st DC, a gorgeous little girl. She is our local Avon lady and she went into labour at 37 weeks on the day she was meant to be collecting the books and orders. She rang me to say she was on her way to hospital and could I collect the books. Of course I said yes, she would have done the same for me.

Earlier today I got a phone call from Tax Credits saying that they had received a tip off from someone saying that I am doing Avon work as well as being on mat leave. I told them that I am not doing Avon and I explained what had happened and that I was not receiving payment.

They said they were going to ring Avon to check to see if I was working for them. They have just rung back to say that they are happy that I am not doing extra work and that they are sorry for bothering me.

I have been worried all day about it and now that worry has been replaced by being angry that someone has reported me for helping a friend.

I know I am probably BU but it has really annoyed me.

TBH I would let it go. You are not going to know who reported you and if you do find out just drop them as a friend.

Concentrate on this new baby.

YANBU - annoyed, I'd be fucking livid - what nasty mean-minded busy body thought it their business to do that. It has to be someone who knows your on tax credits. People don't know you get tax credits unless you tell em.

My DH is disabled so a lot of people know we get disabilty benefits.

Jeez, it must be eating away at em, knowing you get disability benefits and they don't - there are lots of spiteful people around.

georgiemum · 28/05/2009 17:54

fekers. What sort of person would bother to do this???

Your friend will probably have an idea who it was....

Kayzr · 28/05/2009 17:58

When DH was a teenager he got the higher level of the disability living allowence. So he got a badge for the car and his mum got money towards a car etc. Then someone told the benefits people that he could walk quite far. DH had to go to court and he can now only get the lower rate.

Anyway(ramble there) someone bragged to her friends that she had been the person to tell the benefits about him. Now we live 2 doors away from here so I am thinking it could be her.

Karma'll bite on their arses with any luck. I'd be pretty peeved too.

YABU if DH has already been proven to be on a higher DLA rate than entitled to and had it lowered. Its no wonder people might be out to prove a point against you. Its not very nice from your point of view but I am glad there are people out there looking out for tax payers money. As you had nothing to hide there was no harm done.

A bit annoyed? I would be furious. There are some really nasty people around.

Is there are reward for shopping people for this kind of thing? Might that have been their motivation?

Kayzr · 28/05/2009 18:40

It was his specialist that put said he should be on the higher rate.
