... on the phone, for "coming through to the wrong department?" Like I'm in charge of their switchboard? I told the first person exactly what I wanted to do and he said "hold on, I'll put you through"

SO, NOT MY FAULT THEN!!!!!!!! Sort your system out, Nationwide!

I hate those menus - Sky?s is the worst - they assume that you know what ??category?? in their company speak your problem comes under (if you know what I mean lol) - I always get the wrong category - I?m way to impatient to listen to their 4,00,000 options twice to try to figure out who I should be speaking to.

Also!!! Now you can?t phone our local police station directly and it?s a central call centre 300 miles away - Please press 1 if you are being attacked by a mad axe murder, 2 if you have been abducted by aliens etc - when all I want to do is report a stray dog

And donnt get me started on family tax credits

At least the man was able to tell you off in intelligble english ! I have struggled so many times to understand the staff manning the Tiscali customer help lines ... English is not their 1st language .. grrr ... rant over ...

Unlike the GP's surgery. Am still waiting to book an appointment there. Their on-line service keeps telling me I've used the wrong password (er.. no... it wasn't wrong last week) and now they've frozen it coz I've tried it wrong 3 times. Waited in the phone queue for 45 minutes this morning. Then it was engaged, then another wait, then tried a different department, long wait, then engaged......
ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!

If you're confronted with a menu then just ignore it. 99/100 you will be put through to customer services after the machine tells you that 'we cannot understand your instructions, please hold'. And do try to find the 'real number' on saynoto0870.com especially if you're calling from a mobile, as these numbers usually go straight though to customer services as well.

When confronted by a rude operator, ask for their name and a supervisor. That's what I have done in the past and by god, it felt good!!!

TIscali are the worst. We had a few problems and it took them months to understand the issue. I eventually discovered a secret number for a uk call centre and just dealt with them.

Also, don't let them transfer you until an operator in the other department is available to take your call. I find that really does speed up the process...
