DS's lurgy has finally gone so we're enjoying some time away from the sofa, CBeebies and mopping up vomit for the first time since Friday. We're sat in the garden, we have traditional garden furniture - wooden table with a hole in the middle and chairs. I'm not keen on sitting in the sun and much prefer to be under shade, so I said I was amazed we didn't have a parasol, and should I nip out and get one? DH said "but where would we put it?".
"Well I thought it would look rather good there"

So, should I or shouldn't I? Homebase will be an hour round trip, but I hate sitting in the sun - I don't tan, don't like squinting or feeling the sun directly on me (I'm not a killjoy I promise!). OTOH our garden doesn't face the 'right' way so we get sun in the morning, I think it'll probably shade over this afternoon...I think.

I'll go with the majority by 11am

Yes get a parasol - eating out is more fun that way rather than squinting and sweating and burning. I hate eating in direct sunshine just the same way as you do.

Try to get one that has a hinge in the middle of the post if you can so that you can angle towards the sun as well. It will give more shade than just a fixed upright post.

Do make sure the post is not too wide for the hole in your table. Measure the hole before you go. I bought one that was too big for the hole and had to take it back and it was very annoying .

All the BH deals will be off by tomorrow so order online or go later this week.

Don't miss out on chill time in the garden, even if you do your chilling in the shade! It will be wet and crap later.

OK, veering on the "go" so far!
Thanks for the advice ABD, didn't know angled ones were possible, I thought you just had to move round the table I also wouldn't have thought of measuring the hole - would have assumed all holes were the same! It would probably be dark by the time I got back

Yes I would get one. They are very handy and if we have a hot summer you will need it, even if not for you but other people.

StealthPolarBear · 25/05/2009 12:53

Got one!
Also got a paddling pool, some non alcoholic lager, some ice creams and some trashy magazines.
So expect rain in about half an hour
