Not really an Am I being unreasonable but I am starting to feel unreasonable.
So , I put a few things up on freecycle. On the msg I said that I want them to be collected today.
Am i being unreasonable to expect people who say they desperately need something to actually be prepared to collect it on the day I ask.
Fed up of people saying they can take it then telling me they will be there to collect it on X day. Nooooooo , my message clearly says today. I do not want to sit in all fucking day waiting for you. Pffff
Anyone in Aberdeen want some free stuff lol

YABU to expect people to drop whatever plans they had for today.

Bathsheba · 24/05/2009 19:21

Are you the person who wanted called on the phone as they were out in the garden....

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 24/05/2009 19:26

Hee hee I was just thinking when I read your post that I had not had a nose on fveecycle in ages and wondered what the great people of Aberdeen were giving away....spooky

melpomene · 24/05/2009 20:31

Well, they're not really being unreasonable to politely ask for another day - they could be without a car or have work/caring responsibilities which make it difficult for them to come on the day you've suggested.

Could you leave the item outside (at the collector's risk, obviously) if you're not going to be home when they want to collect it?

When we gave away some things recently one person asked if I could deliver a (light, easily transportable) item to him, because he doesn't have a car. He lives in the same part of town as me and must have known it because the area was in the title of my post. Nobody else wanted the item so I emailed him back to say he could have it, but would need to collect it and pointed out that my house is only 5 minutes' walk from his. I never heard back

ginormoboobs · 25/05/2009 08:47

Nah , I'm not the garden lady.
I am just so fed up with timewasters.
I have given most of it away now anyway. The rest is going to charity. If they need it that much then they can go to the shop and buy it.
My house is on the main bus route so it is so easy to get here.
I can't leave anything outside.
So I am being a bit unreasonable
I am stuck in waiting for someone today now. Just what you want with 2 grumpy toddlers lol

I think you are right. Thing is if you don't set out any rules, you could be waiting in all hours of the day for unreliable people.

ginormoboobs where about are you in Aberdeen? If you don't mind me asking.

ginormoboobs · 25/05/2009 09:22

The place that begins with TO

I am running through Aberdeen in my mind now I think I know where you mean that's where I grew up am on the other side of town now.
I lived in the highlands for a while before I came back so am always ridiculously excited that others live close by now need to get out more me thinks

ginormoboobs · 25/05/2009 09:33

LOL. Perhaps my area is putting people off. Maybe they need a couple of days to arrange bodyguards (Tongue in cheek here- I actually live in a nice part of that area. )

Ah yes it is where I though lol.
Believe it or not at Primary School ( I never went to the academy I went to a posh one in town hee hee) My friend and I were picked on for living in the posh part and it carried on with her through academy. We were like ffs it's still To........
I actually liked it there and it's very up and coming over that way now don't ya know young professionals buying up flats cause it is cheap and close to town.

Hmm you live on the bus route??? I am desperate to know where now lol.....nosey cow me.

Queenoftheharpies · 25/05/2009 09:43

Someone round the corner from me has put a box full of toys outside their house, with a sign saying 'Free toys, please help yourself'. If you want the things out of your house in a hurry, you could try that.

I don't think it's unreasonable to put a time limit on collections, I've put things on with 'I'll save it for a week then it's going in the skip' conditions. A same-day collection is maybe a bit harsh though - a lot of people might not be able to check freecycle until they get home from work.

ginormoboobs · 25/05/2009 09:46

Off the large main street. You head down it and eventually get to the beach. I live near the little square of shops that you go up steps to get to that have pensioners houses all around them. I don't live in the posh part , just a nice little bit away from all the crazy people.
