To excpect 5.6 yr old dd to NOT wipe her mouth on her dress during mealtimes?

Do other dc do this, at this age?

She's ALWAYS doing this and it drives me nuts!

I provide kitchen roll napkins routinely but still she wipes her gravy-mouth on her dress/sleeve/whatever

AIBU to expect better table-manners at this age?

YANBU. She's old enough to know better.

Portillista · 23/05/2009 20:20

No, YANBU - but my DS turned 7 recently and still tries to wipe his mouth on his t-shirt despite having been lectured on manners at family meals (and we have two of them every day!) since forever!!

Donk · 23/05/2009 20:21

I am still battling on this one with DS (now 6.5!). He is s l o w l y improving.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 23/05/2009 20:23

Ds is 10 and he still does this. It drives me nuts! I nag until the cow's come home, it makes no diferrence. Darn!

Tortoise · 23/05/2009 20:26

My DD's do this too. They are 4.11 and 6.
But the worst offender is my 12 yr old DS1 who wipes his nose on his t-shirt. Now that is gross!

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 23/05/2009 20:27

I get that aswell Tortoise!

skramble · 23/05/2009 20:29

LOL is was going to say my 12 yr old Ds is terrible for wiping his hands on his trousers and his nose on his jumpers.

notnowbernard · 23/05/2009 20:32

Glad I'm not alone

DS is 6.5 and does it too. Have to constantly remind him to use a kitchen roll napkin.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 23/05/2009 20:46

If he's not using his jumper/shirt/t-shirt to wipe his mouth/nose he's wiping his hands on his trousers. Then there's the nose picking he 'doesn't do' Kids are gross!!!

Tortoise · 23/05/2009 20:50

Fuffybunny That sound just like my DS1! Grotty kids!

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 23/05/2009 21:00

He's sitting reading and picking at the moment. If I tell him to leave his nose alone he acts ignorant. It's gross!

DesperateHousewifeToo · 23/05/2009 21:13

My 7yr old still does this. He doesn't use his dress though but whatever he is wearing And uses his sleeve/arm to wipe his nose, even with boxes of tissues in nearly every room

My 4yr old dd rarely does it.

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 23/05/2009 21:15

DD (a month older) still does this too but miraculously when we are out or eating at someone elses she is the daintiest napkin dabber you have seen

juneybean · 24/05/2009 00:45

I'm 23 and still do this.... lol

helpYOUiWILL · 24/05/2009 06:17

my ds1 5.9yrs is terrible as well - spilling stuff down him etc. So i made him wear a babys pelican bib. He soon made a tramatic improvement !!

It's not so much ds' sleeves that are the problem, it's when he is in short sleeves and doesn't care forgets there is no sleeve to use but wipes his nose/mouth anyway [yuck emoticon]

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/05/2009 10:10

yanbu to want it

my 3.5 does it - but my 6.5 doesnt - think all the nagging has finally sunk it

the 6.5 also chews on the sleeves of school jumpers

Flame · 24/05/2009 10:32

Mine does it too.

We do at least appear to have managed to fix the wiping snot on the wall habit!
