THERE ARE A FEW OF MY OLD SCHOOL FRIENDS ON MY FACEBOOK LIST.
ONE OF THEM IN PARTICULAR-(HATE IS A STRONG WORD SO I WILL USE DISLIKE ! ! !)
PUTS REALLY DAFT THINGS ON HER STATUS SUCH AS
"JUST RECEIVED MY GORGEOUS DIOR BAG THIS MORNING,CANT WAIT 2 USE IT "
OR "CANT WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR MIAMI-JAMAICA-EGYPT-HERE I COME "
OR "NEED 2 GET MY PORTFOLIO IN SHAP FOR MY MODELLING"

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH THIS TOTALLY NARKS ME AND I CANT STAND IT !
U MAY BE WONDERING WHY I ACCEPTED HER AS A FRIEND,2 BE HONEST I DO LIKE 2 HAVE A NOSEY AROUND AND SEE WAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE BEEN DOING SINCE SCHOOL (HOWEVER I HAVE SET MY PRIVACY SETTINGS SO SHE CANT SEE MY PICS ETC !)
IF I SEE THE PERSON IN QUESTION IN THE STREET WE DONT EVEN TALK,SHE IS QUITE SNOBBY AND TENDS 2 LOOK DOWN HER NOSE AT PEOPLE.
AM I BEING UNREASONABLE ?

why are you friends with someone who you dislike?
so you can have a snoop around her page?
yabu, she's obviously not nothered by what others think of her and is enjoying her life. if you don't like it, don't read it.

shinyshoes · 22/05/2009 11:33

I have a FB friend like that I had to say something to her yesturday about her keep going on about going to bloody Italy and 'my life is fantastic' 'i'm so lucky' 'I'm going on 4 holidays this year'

Its almost gloating, she is becoming more and more self indulgent. I'm getting a little pissed off to be honest. I spend time with her in RL and I think I need a break from it.

rubyslippers · 22/05/2009 11:34

remove her as a friend

YABU to use capitals BTW

AMumInScotland · 22/05/2009 11:38

Well, she isn't a friend is she? She's someone who you don't like, and don't speak to in real life, but you want to know what she's doing and saying so that you can judge her for it. And then tell us so that we can judge her too. Why?

mamof3 · 22/05/2009 11:38

sorry about capitals

I've had to delete people for bragging status updates. Don't know why it winds me up so much , but I find it really grating 'Barbara loves her man so much and he's bought her amazing jewels' etc etc. I don't think it's sour grapes, it's something about the 'announcement', like taking an ad out in the paper or something that makes me feel actually embarrassed for them.

tattifer · 22/05/2009 11:45

I have absolutley LOADS of friends who brag! Honestly I can hardly get a modest word in edgewise!

shinyshoes · 22/05/2009 11:51

I post thing like 'i'm bored' or 'I have a day off work and am mn'etting and ironing' or 'I'm off to Tesco in a bit'.

Dull huh?

I agree with Boco that's exactly what it is. I'm not jealous of her at all, I feel sorry for her kids that get treated like second rate citizens while she jets around the globe with her 'lovely new man whom I love soo much and miss you mwah xx'

Lizzylou · 22/05/2009 11:54

Some people just post bragging status updates all the time don't they?
Does drive me mad.
If I changed my status as often as them it'd be soo mundane
"Lizzylou is making lasagne for dinner"
"Lizzylou's cleaned the toilet and is now tackling the vacuuming"

I want jewels

Boco · 22/05/2009 11:56

YOu could always just lie Lizzy? Say 'lizzy is rolling lasciviously in her massive pile of JEWELS'. Gwan.

Lizzylou · 22/05/2009 12:01

Oh, I may just do that Boco

"San Trop here I come"

Would really like to lie lasciviously in jewels though....actually, there are lots in the boys craft box. May even take a snap for my profile pic as well

jasper · 22/05/2009 12:02

bragging about their kids sets my teeth on edge

juneybean · 22/05/2009 12:03

You know what annoys me more, there's one on mine who lately all she posts is "i hate my life" "what did i do to deserve this" and from what I can work out, she's been dumped, so nothing life threatening!

EachPeachPearMum · 22/05/2009 12:09

Lizzylou has just cleaned her jewel-encrusted toilet.... now to vacuum up the diamond dust

dancingmummy · 22/05/2009 12:12

Just 'hide' her! I ended up deleting fb, too many annoying old school friends! If you liked them you'd have kept in touch!

juneybean · 22/05/2009 12:13

LOL so true dancingmummy, I'm very tempted to cull most of mine!

MillyR · 22/05/2009 12:15

Facebook has allowed us to know more about our (not close) friends than we otherwise would do, and this gives us new reasons to dislike people.

I dislike the woman who went on holiday to Thailand and had her photo taken with endangered species who were on chains and in cages in hotels for the entertainment of tourists, and then posted it on FB

I dislike the women who black up at fancy dress dinner parties, and posted pics of it on FB.

I am a big smug about my children though. I just adore them and am proud of them and can't shut up about it. But then, is that really different from people who put children in plays/concerts/dance shows etc. It is all showing off. And I love it when children do well anyway. I have cried (with happiness) over other people's children's achievements. I know that is absurd but if you have known them from being babies and they grow up to be amazing, it is hard not to be moved!

OrmIrian · 22/05/2009 12:16

Why does anyone use facebook? It seems to cause so much angst. First time ever I had a look the other day - a friend showed me her site. It seemed to be nothing but loads and loads of photos of her dds. It was very dull.

Does it do more than that?

Jux · 22/05/2009 12:18

I don't bother with status updates on fb or twitter, but I have some ideas now: 4 holidays, I'm moving to Italy, my Dior bag arrived etc etc. Thank you, otherwise it would have been making tea, or making more tea.

I see some point in those sites now!

tattifer · 22/05/2009 12:20

Aren't some people on here in danger of bragging by proxy?

Look at how many irritatingly rich friends I have...

MillyR · 22/05/2009 12:23

Well, there are good things about FB.

It is a good way of organising group events.
It is a good way of keeping in contact with and networking with people internationally.
It is good for group photosharing.
It is good way for people to find you if they have lost contact or for new people who wish to contact you informally and don't know you that well yet.

So it is really good if a lot of your colleagues and/or family live in other countries or other parts of Britain even.

Stigaloid · 22/05/2009 12:23

YABU - if you don't like hearing her good news delete her as a friend. Not everybody puts up moans on their FB pages. I am always happy to see my friends put up good news/exciting news on their pages - makes me happy for them not jealous. I'd ask to borrow her Dior bag, see if she could pick me up a bargain from Egypt and quiz her about her modelling escapades. Maybe it isn't bragging but excitement?

Delete if it bothers you.
