to feel ignored when my post is not acknowledged?

I may be sensitive, or precious and I'm fairly new on here but I would really like to know what the done thing is here on MN.

So is it unreasonable to expect some sort of acknowledgement when you have responded to another's request for information/advice? [gets ready for a flaming]

TIA

Bugbear is like a Hobgoblin - irritating!

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/05/2009 19:37

KingCanuteIAm · 18/05/2009 19:37

So it is a small mythical creature?

KingCanuteIAm · 18/05/2009 19:38

Ahh.... maybe.... is that not the same thing then blondes?

FairLadyRantALot · 18/05/2009 19:39

your posts just made me giggle...that is all king

hf128219 · 18/05/2009 19:41

Yes - something like that - designed to frighten naughty children! You know 'The bogeyman will get you.'

KingCanuteIAm · 18/05/2009 19:41

Phew

That is nice to hear thank you

KingCanuteIAm · 18/05/2009 19:44

Ahh, I always assumed it was something along the lines of irritating to a bear - bear with a sore head type thing. Hmm, now have visions of little leigons of mythical creatures marching in to make the kids behave

Makeda · 18/05/2009 19:47

Blondes I'm a threadkiller too.

Sometimes it's a relief not to get a reply to a comment when you see the flaming other posters get!

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/05/2009 19:47

Blondes

Makeda · 18/05/2009 19:52

Thanks FairLady, actually I'm just a wimp

InternationalFlight · 18/05/2009 19:54

Yes in response to OP, it's really usually that you read, nod and understand someone's contribution, but the fact that there are seven other people you need to acknowledge as well means they normally only get a joint thankyou from me...I feel guilty about it but it would take ages to say thankyou individually to everyone.

I very rarely actually IGNORE a post, ie don't read it and use the info therein. All posts are appreciated.

That's just me, not sure how universal it is.

chegirl · 18/05/2009 21:04

On another forum I frequent there is one v.sweet poster who answers EVERYONE who posts on her threads. Sometimes these go on for pages and pages and she doesnt miss a one . Even the ones that just say 'hugs hun' or 'thinking of you'.

I am full of admiration actually. I am rubbish at that. I DO try but I am rubbish.

canttouchthis · 18/05/2009 21:10

to be fair, it is fast moving this website, so it's to be expected that some people won't acknowledge your advice. it's happened to me many a time, but not looking too much into it.

alot of people give a general thanks to all those who helped as it's too time consuming to thank every single poster.

AitchTwoOh · 18/05/2009 21:12

i'd slit my wrists if everyone thanked everyone all the time. it's one of the main reasons i can't really be doing with the big 'dave, dee, dozy, mick, titch, jenn, worley, puss' chat threads... ghastly.

i think people are really pleasant and kind on here absolutely for the most part... but it is a biiiiig forum now so it must be harder for newbs. at the end of the day, if you say interesting things people will be interested. (and if you suggest that being pro-bfing is making a fuss over every little issue then people will think you're rude ).

snowmummy · 18/05/2009 22:04

Thanks all for your replies. I reckon then, it depends on the subject of the thread and how personal or specific the information is.

If the post was asking do you prefer the red or the blue dress and I gave my opinion, then obviously I wouldn't expect a personal thanks. However, in the thread in question, I gave information that was quite personal, and (IMO) relevant. The OP did thank other posters personally whilst seemingly ignoring my post. Like some of you have said, it could be an oversight, this is a fast moving site so I won't be taking it personally.

Thanks again.

well if you made the effort to write a long post, i think a thank you would be the norm. definitely put it down as an oversight.
