to feel ignored when my post is not acknowledged?

I may be sensitive, or precious and I'm fairly new on here but I would really like to know what the done thing is here on MN.

So is it unreasonable to expect some sort of acknowledgement when you have responded to another's request for information/advice? [gets ready for a flaming]

TIA

i am usually v nice and normal, until i get told my husband will go and have an affair ,perhaps, loveonesun, you should not get so persoanl and rude when you have just joined a forum?

Lulumama · 18/05/2009 17:59

sorry, apologies for thread about a thread reference.

SouthMum · 18/05/2009 17:59

King, will give those a go and afterwards, if DS is constipated I'll dip it in a Vindaloo

flamingobingo · 18/05/2009 18:01

Ooh, what thread is your thread about Lulu?

KingCanuteIAm · 18/05/2009 18:04

See how useful MN can be - bet you would never have though of that constipation cure if you had not come here would you?

MIAonline · 18/05/2009 18:10

Some posts do go unanswered especially if they are busy, or (like this one looks like it is going to) it starts to go off on a tangent and, if like me, you are fairly slow at typing, by the time you have posted your own it can be a bit wide of the mark.

One area I do agree with you on though is if you post advice and the op +never* comes back and acknowledges anybody on the thread, even if the advice was promptly posted. It annoys me that I have wasted my time, it seems to have happened alot lately though so I probably just need to get a life

snowmummy · 18/05/2009 18:15

Good to hear all your thoughts. Wasn't banking on a constipation cure though !!

I am going out now but I will check back later.

Sometimes real life steps in and it can be days before an op manages to get back, it is not always rudeness. Because a thread falls off your "threads I am on" after a few days you may not see when an op does come back.

They could well appologise and acknowledge your addition, even ask for more information but, if you do not see it, you will never know.

I do think there is a lot to be said for just offering what you have then letting it go without expectation, it can save a lot of time in being a bit cross or hurt IYSWIM.

KingCanuteIAm · 18/05/2009 18:17

That is what I love about MN, always an opportunity for a giggle and a little something extra - fab

MIAonline · 18/05/2009 18:17

I should clarify, I mean the posts where someone asks where can I find.. What can i do with this.. rather than the emotional posts where somebody may have feasibly had to go and deal with issues in RL.

MN must not like me moaning, as I had to post that for a 2nd time

KingCanuteIAm · 18/05/2009 18:20

Yes MN can be good at hints, the lasts few days it has even turned itself off at night, just because it thinks we should all be going to bed earlier

grumblinalong · 18/05/2009 18:23

YABU wanting an acknowledgement I'm afraid because threads where the OP lists their thankyou's/acknowledgements are zzzzzz....if you haven't had your first flaming yet then I can kind of understand, but wait until you have. You'll then be wishing MN had a retract and delete facility. I speak from bitter experience

MIAonline · 18/05/2009 18:25

I must say I do agree with you in principle KingCanute and MN is fantastic for acknowledging the support that people post.

But, there is a minority who post a question such as where can I find a blue, stripey {insert random object of own choice] and get 4 or 5 replies from people who have bothered to look it up or share their expertise and the OP never comes back!

I will shift my halo back into position and agree to continue posting my wise advice on said 'blue stripey..' for the love of MN

MIAonline · 18/05/2009 18:30

Argh, after all that rambling I didn't say if Op was BU.

YABU, to expect a personal acknowledgment to your post

YANBU, to expect someone to acknowledge the posts on a thread as a whole

stoppinattwo · 18/05/2009 18:40

Oh I love lulu when she gets shirty

squeaver · 18/05/2009 18:44

It's one of my biggest bug-bears but having a thick skin is an MN pre-requisite.

KingCanuteIAm · 18/05/2009 19:07

Go on then Squeaver, what actually is a bug-bear? I have always wanted to know and never known anyone else who uses the prase!

Jojay · 18/05/2009 19:17

You've never heard of bug bear?

hf128219 · 18/05/2009 19:20

It's actually bugbear.

MintyyAeroEgg · 18/05/2009 19:25

You need to get used to it.

After several years, if you keep on posting, you may begin to feel at home here

I try to acknowledge other people's posts sometimes, especially if I completely agree with what they say or if they make me laugh. Even if its not my op. Cos I think its nice for people to feel they are not posting into a void.

wolfnipplechips · 18/05/2009 19:26

loveone i don't think announcing on a thread that you are looking for a "normal mum" who doesn't make a fuss over "every little issue" is the way forward

Overmydeadbody · 18/05/2009 19:27

Surely you cannot expect a personal repoly or acknowledgement of every helpful post you write?

Sometimes it is annoying though, I agree, especially if the OP has asked a very specific question and I'm the only person to respond, but they don't bother to say thank you.

KingCanuteIAm · 18/05/2009 19:27

I have heard of it, the phrase, and I understand its meaning in context. I was just wondering what it actually is IYSWIM!

oh dear, lovesoneson....I'm sorry you feel as if people don't like you, but it's just not good manners to label people as a 'brigade' (how would you like it?!) and imply you are normal and other people are not!

I think a talkboard is like a party where the conversation is going on without you - you would hang back a tad and get the 'tone' before you jumped in with labels on people, yes?

Try again and people will not bite, I promise!
