AIBU...
to be disappointed that my husband gave me a dvd boxed set ( a large and impressive one of my fave series) when I really wanted jewellry (specifically from tiffanys)?
to not have hidden in better because when I opened it he said you can take it back, its rubbish isn't it?
to be really upset now because I think he's upset because he bought me a lovely present and I'm an ungrateful cow?
to be more upset because he had to go to work instead of having the day off and the kids have gone to his mothers and I have to go and sit an exam after spending the morning alone?
to be even more upset because I'm pregnant and hormonal and I wish my mum was still around as she loved bithdays and my only sibling has forgotten its my birthday?

YABU for sure.....

YABU for the first - he tried to get you something he thought you'd like

YABU for the second too

YANBU for the third or the fourth - can you arrange to meet him for lunch or a coffee or something? That way you can make it up and have a nice birthday treat.

YAtotallyNBU for the last one. Poor you. Honesty is always the best policy IME - tell your DH how you're feeling.

Happy Birthday btw!

VinegarTits · 18/05/2009 08:57

Happy birthday!

Theres more to life than expensive jewellery, like famliy and knowing you are loved, maybe throw lots of hints his way for xmas about the jewellery

JoPie · 18/05/2009 09:03

It was silver I was hoping for, to clarify, I'm not that bad!

I'm already feeling silly, now that everyones gone. I am pleased he was so thoughtful and made such an effort with my present (he is terrible at occasions as they were never a thing in his family), and I'm just really annoyed at myself for letting him think I wasn't pleased, I could kick myself

I'm such a big baby.

Happy Birthday! A whole morning to myself sounds like bliss to me, pity about the exam though?!

Once year my sister recieved a CD rack from her husband for her birthday. She opened it and burst into tears!!

Greensneeze · 18/05/2009 09:09

YANBU ((((cuddle))))))

Birthdays that end in a zero are the definition of mixed feelings. And I would want to spend my birthday with my dh, and exams suck at the best of times

You obviously have a really sweet dh though who loves you to little mintballs

So loook forward to some nice time with him this evening (suggestion - new dvds, takeaway, booze, ice cream? works for us)

Happy birthday!!! [balloons]

Happy Birthday JoPie! It's my birthday today too

DP presented me with a beautifully wrapped.......sat nav

But he's also packing me off to a spa today for massage/facial/pedicure etc and then he's taking me and dd to a posh gastropub in t'country for a slap-up lunch so not all bad!

I think your DP was trying to get you something you would like and that's to be appreciated.

Did you drop many hints about the jewellery?

Happy birthday tmmj!

Its my birthday in 2 weeks, i will be working all day, i dont have a dp to buy me nice presents, my 2 yr doesnt understand birthdays and i am sure that i will get the obligatory box of choccies from ds1 (he is 19 and doing an apprenticeship so doesnt have much cash to spare bless him)

But i dont care because i know i am loved

JoPie · 18/05/2009 09:33

Happy Birthday to Bunny and MMJ!

Am feelin better, texted DH and told him I loved it and wasn't dissapointed, just surprised, hope he believed me. Hes so sweet, he said he was rubbish at picking jewellery and that he would take me to pick something out if I wanted

Its not about presents anyway is it, I've been studying and had a week of exams (last one today) and he has been so supportive and doing everything for the kids as well as working all weekend, which is why I'm so annoyed and upset at myself for not being more appreciative of his great present, he deserves better.

Prenancy + extreme tiredness+ exams+ big birthdays can make you feel quite insane, I think!
