The freshly stuffed type you buy from M&S? We had an agreement that all meals would be freshly cooked. I take ages making each meal for him from scratch and have never given him pre-prepared or convenience food and bit annoyed she has.

Sorry to go backwards but £3000 a month net??!! Is this how much London nannies get paid? How can they get paid more than senior managers in schools???

frogwatcher · 17/05/2009 16:13

Im sure this is a wind up. Its got to be. But I will tell the story of a similar mother to this op who made her poor kids eat very very healthily all the time. I found them at 3 years old at a party behind a curtain in the hall, scoffing on cake and biscuits they had gathered off the floor!! According to other parents there they were well known for it but they mother didnt know. They will have a good relationship with food in the future!!! And a child I babysat for when I was in my teens who was really restricted on sweets and chocolate who stole anything sweet she could from shops, handbags etc as she had such a craving for it. Fortunately most parents dont put these pressures on little ones - everything in moderation, thats my motto. This op must be barmy or a troll.

squilly · 17/05/2009 16:20

Tis a troll thread, no? I am new to identifying these but it has all the classic signs.

The first few pages of this were well worth reading though. Squonk posted some of the most hilarious comments/links I've ever seen on here.

IF, and it's a huge if, the OP is real, she's being Very Unreasonable because she's passive aggressively implying that all other mums are crap because they don't cook properly for their kids. The very fact that we might consider giving our kids ready made pasta is clearly sinful and we should not be allowed to have children.

Me and mine are about to head of to McDonalds. Now THAT'S crappy food and crappy parenting.

clemette · 17/05/2009 16:27

To reply as if it was real:
When my FB was 14 months I woulsn't have given her stuffed pasta as I would have been concerned about the amount of salt. But they I realised that there is more salt in two slices of bread than in a packet of crisps and I relaxed.
Stuffed pasta with a tomato sauce (ie tin of tomatoes and some mushrooms) is DD's favourite meal now, and so DS (16 months) also has it. It is impossible to be so precious when you have two and I am slightly abashed at how controlling I was with DD.
I completely agree that I want them to eat well, but I have realised that some convenience foods (eg fish fingers) are actually healthy and helpful to us working mums!

Danielle1987 · 17/05/2009 16:57

Danielle1987 · 17/05/2009 16:59

Nighbynight · 17/05/2009 17:21

Snippets,
if you're still reading...

I have had Au Pairs for several years, and have had this kind of problem with the childrens lunch.
You need to spend half an hour menu-planning with your nanny, or else control what she cooks by only leaving the food that you want her to cook in the fridge. In other words - dont leave any M+S ravioli in there, and she wont be able to cook it! This is basically what I do - I used to have an "emergency" shelf of ready made paella etc for days when I am ill or over-stressed, but then I found one of our APs cooked it on normal days! So I simply stopped buying it. Or how about making a folder of recipes for her to use?

I am crap at giving clear instructions to APs, because I always feel that Im coming across as a bossy control freak.

It is difficult to tread the line between control freakery and ensuring that your child has enough vegetables. But I think that any relationship like this is bound to be a bit fraught at times - people arent machines, misunderstandings are possible...

Bonneville · 17/05/2009 17:26

OMG Having 'emergency paella' on a normal day!!!!!

Nighbynight · 17/05/2009 17:26

(tattifer, were you by any chance at oxford university?)

Nighbynight · 17/05/2009 17:28

Bonneville!!

how dare you laugh at my emergency paella!

It comes in a tall tub from french Aldi, and you can make it in 20 minutes! a hot, satisfying, healthy meal.

On normal days, I cook cordon bleu stuff like baked potatoes. Harumph.

Nighbynight · 17/05/2009 17:29

What do you cook then, on days when you get back home at 7,30 pm with 4 tired, hungry children?

Its bloody annoying I can tell you when you discover at that point that hte AP has cooked all the paella!!!

Bonneville · 17/05/2009 17:35

Nigh - you obviously havent got enough emergency paella in your house. Get thee to the shops tomorrow and stock up! Hide it if necessary!

Ripeberry · 17/05/2009 17:38

It was no ordinary pasta.....it was M&S pasta! How on earth can you complain about that?
Your CM sounds like a very caring person, you should feel lucky to have her and YABU!

Laquitar · 17/05/2009 17:38

Ah i want paella now . What time M&S close? I want to go and buy a pack of ravioli and a pack of paella! I knew i shouldn't come back to this thread . And i am a healthy eater, honestly i am

Nighbynight · 17/05/2009 17:39

I do stock up with it. I only get to the supermarkets in France a few times a year, so I tend to come back with 10 paellas, 6 vinaigrettes, 20 Rice Krispies etc.

It is hidden in the cellar, but she managed to root out everything that took no effort to cook, whilst leaving fresh food rotting in the fridge!

squatchette · 17/05/2009 17:57

I seriously hope you have contacted OFSTED it's ready made pasta today MC D'S tomorrow.
What a thoughtless selfish witch this woman must be imposing this culinary filth on your poor childs unsullied little body.
If i was in your shoes i'd go round with some own brand pasta hoops and sausages then force feed her them.Though this could get you in a spot of bother with the law you would have perfect mitigation.
Hangings too good i tell ya...

squatchette · 17/05/2009 18:03

Gosh what a long thread about pasta. It's always the same when food gets brought up...
Not actualy brought up obviously.

squilly · 17/05/2009 18:10

LOL squatchette

LadyHooHa · 17/05/2009 18:25

Personally, I'd be more worried about leaving my children with someone else while I went off and did whatever was more important than looking after them than I would be about them eating M&S pasta.

clemette · 17/05/2009 19:00

LadyHooHa - do you genuinely not think that mothers should work outside of the home? Or is it the ridiculous nature of the OP that has prompted your comment?

StealthPolarBear · 17/05/2009 19:05

This thread inspired me to go out and buy some ready made stuffed pasta - not M&S I'm afraid but tesco

coolma · 17/05/2009 19:06

Dammit, just realised I leave my three year old with a childminder, and my 9 year old at an after school club whilst I selfishly go and earn money to keep our home and buy ridiculous things like clothes and food (albeit nowt but fresh organic food naturellment). What rubbish parenting.

ReneRusso · 17/05/2009 19:14

The dc in question is 13 months old ( i think) - that is still a baby really. I think i was quite precious about my first when she was that age. Perhaps many others were too, but have forgotten.

tattifer · 17/05/2009 19:25

Worry not Coolma - I let both my girls go to school - five days a week. How awful of me to leave them others instead of home educating.

I'll have to eat lots of paella to make myself feel better.

tattifer · 17/05/2009 19:26

nighybynight why do you ask?
