The freshly stuffed type you buy from M&S? We had an agreement that all meals would be freshly cooked. I take ages making each meal for him from scratch and have never given him pre-prepared or convenience food and bit annoyed she has.

re nannies doing what their employers ask them to do - of course, that's fair enough, you pay their wages, they should do what you ask. Sometimes tho, I hear people complaining about nannies (and NOT referring to OP here, but people I know in RL) when they have asked their nannies to do things they have NEVER had to do themselves and these are genuine e.g.
Colleague: Can you believe it. I have told my nanny never EVER to let my PFB have a rich tea biscuit at toddler group because it's bad for her teeth. Yet the Nanny is trying to persuade me that one biscuit won't hurt and actually it's quite hard for DD not to have one cos all the other children are.
Me: have you ever been to a toddler group with your DD yourself and told her she has to be the only child not having a rich tea biscuit
COlleague: no, that's what I pay the nanny for

Different colleague: I got home from work and the nanny had done nothing but play with the child all day. She hadn't anti-bac'd the high chair and play pen; she hadn't done the washing and hadn't vac'd DD's room since yesterday

I am NOT kidding.

Crows are like rats I think... they like the chicken feed. Perhaps that is a discussion to have on the Chicken Keepers section, or whatever it's called. Mind you, probably more fun to have it on here tonight

tigerdriver · 16/05/2009 01:13

well if we are talking about fowl now, perhaps one of your could advise me about peacock poo. not kidding, it's very smelly. and they are not even my peacocks.

KingCanuteIAm · 16/05/2009 01:14

Right I am giving in as I have children tomorrow, and a busy day! Why do I do this to myself?

Night all, enjoy your chicken talk

frAKKINPannikin · 16/05/2009 01:14

Wow - you're lucky enough to have peacocks near you? I assume you can see them as well as smell their offerings?

Shine on, yes the crows like the chicken feed. We should really call out the crow catcher, but I haven't yet because it seems bizarre, 18th century and somewhat barbaric.

I may try just moving the feed inside the coop.

I think your neighbour has a responsibility to deal with the crows. It could be an AIBU in itself.

tigerdriver · 16/05/2009 01:21

Peacocks:

  • yes, they are lovely to look at and actually I don't mind the noise (as they are cancelled out by the deer, foxes, owls, pheasants, etc).
  • sadly, Shiney, they are not feral, as we know who they belong to - they escaped from their pen about six weeks ago and have evaded recapture. I don't think I can run the feral argument given I know who owns them.
  • they crap everywhere and their poo is toxic
  • but they give great comedy value as the kittens think they are fair game, even though the peafowl (two girls, actually) are about 5 times the size of the cats, but the cats still try to get them. Did you know that peacocks can run really quite fast?

I think most radical options are now closed as we have fed them out of pity and they are called "peaky" and "cocky".

nannynick · 16/05/2009 01:23

Didn't Mr Twit coat the bird cage in glue to catch the crows? Maybe you could put glue on top of the chicken coop?

But perhaps not so wise if the chickens are free range.

MillyR · 16/05/2009 01:26

I am not following in the footsteps of Mr Twit. I was disturbed enough by the chicken keeping survivalists on Wifeswap the other day who were feeding their children roadkill from a dual carriageway.

Oooh they're edible, aren't they?! Anyone got any good peacock recipes?

MillyR · 16/05/2009 01:34

I meant that I think it is her moral responsibility as the crows are vermin in a way, and her chicken feed is encouraging them. I don't know about legal responsibility.
