tbh theres not that much damage, the wing mirror is ripped off and the cop says prob an uninsured driver so i'll end up out the money myself.

YANBU but bashing the culprit won't get you far - probably only a night in a cell.

When I damaged my wing mirror (my fault, as I was reversing out of a tight driveway at the time) it was cheaper for me to get the wing mirror replaced, than to claim on the insurance and pay the excess.

I am a useless driver so I always carry post-its with my name, address, phone no on ready for these emergencies when I damage someone else's car! I scraped someone's car once and was such a shaking wreck I struggled to write my details so now I am always prepared! lol

I would be really angry too.. even if it would cost more to go through the insurance .. its the principle

i lost my wing mirror in a narrow lane recently and this company were very good
