Have you thought about getting an answerphone so you only have to talk to her when YOU want to?

YANBU. Wait for her to wind down and then say, very pointedly "I had a nice/shit day thank you for asking; it's nice to know you're interested".

If she didn't respond appropriately to that I'd be tempted to hang up; you have better other things to do.

have you looked up narcissictic personality disorder? I am in a similar situation. It sucks.

I second the answer phone and when she complains, tell her to leave a message about her life as clearly she doesn't need to hear about yours....
