man knocks on the door. i don't know him. i check his jacket for logos, and see he is carrying SKY advertising bumpf.

He says: don't worry, you are not in trouble!
I think: but you are, buster!
He says: are you on freeview or sky?
I say: with all respect, i don't see how that is any of your business
He says: well, you may be eligible for an upgrade.

I closed the door.

AIBU?

To put this in context: i am mnetting while having a glass of wine.

Are you being U for MNing while drinking?

bigchris · 13/05/2009 18:24

well it would have been polite to say 'no thank you' before closing the door

oldspotraver · 13/05/2009 18:24

Yes you are being unreasonable. You should of twatted him with his clipboard or stole it so he cant bother anyone else

Numberfour · 13/05/2009 18:24

no, getting off my butt while mnetting!

big, i said i did understand that he was doing a job and that i appreciated it was difficult - but: it was none of his business

and i also said, no i am not interested, before saying thank you and closing the door.

i was merely relaying a shorthand version of the events. after all, giving all the details would have interrupted my wine.

If I'm not in the least bit interested in what someone's selling door to door, I tell them I'm not the homeowner. Technically, I'm not, DP is. It makes them go away and I don't have to be rude.

Numberfour · 13/05/2009 18:29

i promise promise promise i was not rude to the poor fellow!!! now I feel bad.... but i did tell him that i was not interested.

Well then, there you have it.

Slam door in someone's face = rude and unreasonable.

Politely tell them you're not interested, thank them and close door = fine, not unreasonable.

Hulababy · 13/05/2009 18:33

Not really sure what the AIBU query is about.

What is you have done that may or may not be unreasonable?

Numberfour · 13/05/2009 18:34

not to listen to some poor bloke's spiel about something he is trying to sell - while he is doing that merely to make a living for himself and family.

Ah right, YANBU. You politely declined. Fair enough.

MANATEEequineOHARA · 13/05/2009 18:36

You are being very reasonable and have inspired me to go and pour myself a glass of wine!

Numberfour · 13/05/2009 18:38

[slurp]
