To be thoroughly pissed off with the lack of decent places to eat (with dc) that is honestly priced and not a load of Brakes Bros crap?

Am talking country pub type fare here, but am also increasingly frustrated by being ripped off by restaurants

I live in a beautiful part of the country, loads of picture-postcardesque villages with lovely pubs with beer gardens etc

Sunny day, marvellous

Then you look at the menu and it's a pile of shite

Today there was basic fish n chips for £10.95

Hummous with pita bread (a "light bite"[sic]) for £5.95!!!

And my personal favourite, a Greek Salad for £10.50

We buggered off somewhere else for a roast but that was priced at £12.50!

AIBU? Or really out of touch? I had a quick look at what people were eating and it was unsensational to say the least

"lite bite"

I understand your frustration. Keep looking and eventually you'll find a place you do like. When you find it, become a regular.

notnowbernard · 10/05/2009 20:38

The thing is, I don't want to be a 'regular'... I want to be able to say "Ooh, I really fancy a pint of Guinness and a roast, let's go out for a drive to so and so"... and turn up, and order it, and not be hideously let down and angry by the

Shite service

Hideous overpricing

Crap, totally un-homemade food

Do you live in the Cotswolds or thereabouts ??

notnowbernard · 10/05/2009 21:20

Not the Cotswolds

But am near to rural Southern England

The places I went to today weren't even peddling to the tourist trade

No wonder so many places are going bust. We decided we couldn't afford it/be bothered/didn't want to get pissed off so settled for a nice pint in the sunshine instead and had a nice dinner at home

The majority of places do seem to serve up reheated food these days, the only things they cook are the chips and they are frozen.

It pisses me off too!

My DH cooks a tastey roast but we went through a spell of going out for Sunday lunch, pushing inedible crap round our plate and now we don't bother. He would rather cook it than pay through the nose for it.

To be honest, if we eat out we tend to go to Brewsters pubs where we know the food is crap but the kids will have fun - this is only in an emergency I hasten to add!!!!!

I would rather eat beans on toast or a jacket potato than eat shockingly shit food "as a treat".

notnowbernard · 10/05/2009 21:51

Agree with you, it's all shockingly bad

A bowl of chips today in one of the places was £4 £4!

And these were, normal, village pubs

I'm not a tightwad, btw, but just can't stand paying ridiculous amounts for simple everyday food
