to expect M&S to deliver flowers to a delivery address

It's my birthday today. dh phoned me at work to ask if I had had any surprises. I hadn't had any so said no.

dh had ordered flowers from M&S with express delivery, but the courier had been unable to deliver them (only found this out when dh realised I had not got flowers). Work in a hospital, with easily identifiable entrance and reception desk.

Courier has returned flowers to M&S. dh will get his money back, and they said they will send me a voucher, but dh was a little down I did not get flowers. I thought it was a nice thought.

YANBU but most importantly, happy birthday

SoupDragon · 08/05/2009 21:42

Perhaps the fault doesn't lie with the courier. Delivery may have been refused. Or maybe the courier couldn't park anywhere.

M&S failed to deliver 2 bottles of champagne to a relative for her 50th birthday - we got vouchers and sent them on to her, but its the principle isn't it?

poorbuthappy · 08/05/2009 21:45

Sorry - Happy birthday!

cheshirekitty · 08/05/2009 21:45

You are probably right, soupdragon. The courier probably could not park!!

dh has never done anything like this before, and was excited I would get flowers at work.

It was a lovely thought though.

M&S flowers are dreadful. I sent my mum and sis flowers last Easter (separate towns) - my mum's arrived but not my sister's. I only found this out because when my mum rang to thank me I said I'd sent some to sis too and later my mum rang back to say sis hadn't got them. Rang M&S who said they'd run out of that particular arrangement (hadn't bothered to tell me) and would resend in a few days. When I checked a few days later they still hadn't arrived. Rang again and was told that the courier had damaged them and so returned them to the warehouse. Didn't bother to tell me. In the end my sis got two arrangements from them and I got free credit for another order. When I used the free credit for a friend the order was processed, I went on holiday, and came back to find they'd run out of that particular arrangement .......

I'm not so bothered about the fact that they may have a problem fulfilling an order as the fact that they don't bloody well tell you straight away! So, you could end up feeling huffy that someone hasn't thanked you for the flowers you sent, when they never received them!!!
