Just a general moan but it feels like I have had one cold after another since Mid Feb.

Just get over one, Dc get something and then DH and I get it and so it goes on and on and on.....

DC are 4 and 1.

AIBU to want to feel well?

I just feel shattered. Anyone else feeling the same?

I also feel that my poor kids suffer as a consequence as it does not feel like we have been out to do anything nice for weeks!

I feel exactly the same.

Have children of the same age and they just seem to be little Typhoid Marys.

I have a sore throat today.

dingledangle · 08/05/2009 15:31

It is just exhausting and I feel that I am not giving them my best either. (Feel like going to bed to be honest, but not an option as no one to care for them!)

When people ask how I am I just say ok now as it seems so boring to tell the real story!

I know!

It is crappy.

I am already counting down the hours to bedtime.

dingledangle · 08/05/2009 15:40

Me too. I feel so bad for doing this but this morning when I was up at 5.55am I thought ' um only another 13 hours until bed time!' (for DC of course) Although at the moment I am not far behind them!

First Defence - honestly, I swear by it. The minute there is so much as a sneeze in this house I find out the first defence and use it for a few days - up until recently (when I didn't First Defence I might add) I hadn't had a cold for months and months despite the rest of the family getting them.

starzzz · 08/05/2009 15:48

I used to be like this too (had a cold all of the year before last) until i started taking Echinacea (thought id give it a try as didnt want to get married with a cold). Ive not had a cold since! I definately reccomend it

dingledangle · 08/05/2009 16:34

What dosage of Echinacea do you use? (do you have young kids too?

dingledangle I am feeling grotty today, I don't normally get colds, this is actually just a slight one, but I feel exhausted and dh is away. My dc are 4 and 6 so at least I could do nothing while dd was at pre-school, but you have a baby.

I can't recommend any websites, but it could be worth googling to find one that recommends what foods to eat to avoid colds.

The Echinacea sounds like a good idea.

mrsboogie · 08/05/2009 17:03

I have a LO who started in nursery in mid Feb when I went back to work after maternity leave- I have been sick ever since. Full of cold yet again today and we have had stomach bugs and COLD viruses non stop.

I hadn't had a cold for 5 years previous to this. The fact that I am working full time and he wakes for 2 feeds in the night doesn't help - only ever get about 5 hrs sleep a night.

Must get First Defence!

CrushWithEyeliner · 08/05/2009 17:10

I know how you feel - DD is always ill. We are actually going private to a Paed to get some tests done on her as she has had a virus and fever every month this year which I feel is just not right to me. it is a totally different experience of Motherhood when you have a constantly ill child it is so hard. I look at friends with little toughies in a t-shirt in winter running around never ill and I am mystified at why DD catches everything. She has great food, really good care etc and I am like an ox...I think she takes from her father's side lol

dingledangle · 08/05/2009 18:49

Thanks for suggestions so far.

I have resigned myself to the fact that this is 'normal' for preschool children. We always seem to be ok up until Xmas and then it is Jan-March that we get really run down and tired by it all.

It did improve when DD turned about 2 so I am hopeful that we will all get fewer colds but perhaps that is foolish as by then oldest will be at school and younger one may start nursery/preschool and then there are double the bugs. At least at the moment only one is mixing a lot with other kids!

Echinacea sounds like a possibility as does the first defence.....

Thanks everyone......

The Echinacea I take for two weeks, one a day, then not for two weeks, then repeat the process over and over.

JoPie · 09/05/2009 21:49

I don't think being constantly sick is normal for pre-school children at all. Yes they pick up the old cold, but its not normal for them to be sick enough to be kept in for weeks on end.
Sounds like you need to build up their immune systems.

dingledangle · 10/05/2009 18:58

DC are not so sick they have to be 'kept in for weeks on end'. They have coughs and colds etc. But of course as riven stated they like to share these things.....

I was wondering whether other parents have found the same.

They eat a varied diet with plenty of fruit, vegetables, carbs, meat and so forth. When I look at other children in preschool play ground they have all the same stuff too (you can hear the same cough etc doing the rounds!)

Just wondered how other people cope! I remember reading somewhere that adults get about 3 colds per year and preschoolers double that due to the fact these viruses are new to their system.

Anyone else able to offer other suggestions....?

I got a cold and a cough of one of the demon offspring last October which lingered and lingered (could have been more than one virus overlapping, I don't know). It culminated in me being admitted to hospital just before Xmas with pneumonia, which was nice! I think when you've got small children, you just don't have the time to lie down and feel sorry for yourself 'til you get better, so it takes that much longer to get rid!
