ALL showers should have self cleaning glass/walls.

Enough said.

Oh God yes, you are most definitely NBU. I'm so sick of scrubbing water marks off the shower door.

AlistairSim · 08/05/2009 08:21

Yes and why don't we all have one of those robot helpers?

southeastastra · 08/05/2009 08:24

and our own hovercrafts..

cheshirekitty · 08/05/2009 08:25

So you either clean the shower naked, than have a shower after, so dirtying the shower again.

Or have a shower, then clean the shower, then smell the rest of the day because of the exertion.

As for robot helpers, my dh says he's got one - me.

Or get a cleaner.

I clean the shower while showering... wash myself and hair, then squirt limescale remover all over the door, wait one second a minute then rinse off with the handheld shower bit. I then use a squeegy to get rid of the water before I get out of the shower. Dh then ruins all my hard work by leaving water all over it and getting water marks all over. Our water's so hard, I'm surprised in not encrusted in limescale when I step out of the shower!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 08/05/2009 09:46

I'm a bit of a slattern at heart but I do like a clean so we use one of these as soon as we've finished to keep it looking water mark free.

VeryAnnieMary · 08/05/2009 09:47

Headfairy - me too - limescale does my head in - had a new bathroom fitted last Nov - it's already crusty adn orange, adn this is even during the "it's new so I love cleaning it" phase. Desparately unfair. Could I ask what products you use? - I use ecover where I can but suspect something more hardcore would whup-ass better.

HeadFairy · 08/05/2009 09:54

veryannie, I do use ecover too but I have to do it every day, and use the squeegy religiously. The orange stuff so I'm told is from the chemicals in shampoo and conditioners reacting with grout. I managed to get rid of ours using a toothbrush dipped in some bleach, but we've got stone coloured grout and stone coloured tiles so it was a bit easier perhaps. I have to do that every couple of months because the dreaded orange comes back so often.

HeadFairy · 08/05/2009 09:56

I have to 'fess up to having a cleaner too, but she's rotten at cleaning the shower. I don't think she understands about limescale. I do sometimes use a bit of the nasty Cif stuff she insists on using and it's got a limescale remover in it which is pretty good, I think it's Cif Actifizz or something like that.

Stayingsunnygirl · 08/05/2009 10:03

We have one of those sprays that you use after showering - Shower Sparkle etc - they are supposed to stop the limescale forming. They do work reasonably well, as long as you remember to use them. Dh isn't bad at remembering, but the dses are atrocious.

cheshirekitty · 08/05/2009 10:07

The squeegy thing looks good - how sad am I?

OP posts:
HeadFairy · 08/05/2009 10:09

the squeegy is a great invention! Wouldn't shower without it

mrsjuan · 08/05/2009 10:48

We've got the shower spray as well - Mr muscle I think. We're normally really good at using it for a few weeks and then start to get slack and the crust starts to build up again. I do find scrubbing quite satisfying though!
I wish they did something similar for the oven.

HeadFairy · 08/05/2009 11:33

don't waste your money on the Waitrose own brand shower spray, left dirty great streaks all over our shower door. Much better just to squeegy (I don't work for Squeegy or anything BTW )

Overmydeadbody · 08/05/2009 11:35

I think all taps should be mixer taps as standard too, I mean ffs who wants to have to choose between freezing cold or boiling hot water?!

mum23monkeys · 08/05/2009 11:39

what do you use to clean off limescaley bits that have already collected on the glass. A wipe with bathroom cleaner isn't doing the trick, but I don't want to scrub too hard in case I scratch the glass.

Please bear in mind this is all hypothetical - I have no intention of cleaning the shower in the near future (we have squeegy thing too which keeps the worst at bay)

cheshirekitty · 08/05/2009 20:01

Pilkingtons make self cleaning glass, so why don't they use that in showers?
