to be considering taking up smoking to lose weight?

I am getting married in 4 months, and ideally would like to lose at least 2 and a half stone. I have terrible willpower with food, especially since "settling down" and having a child. I used to smoke, about 5 a day and always managed to keep my weight down. Not really because it suppressed my appetite, more the fact that it was something to do. I now find that if I have five minutes I will raid the cupboards for something comforting to eat. I also "reward" myself with food to justify it - if I've had a bad day I'll give myself a treat.
I have tried and tried and tried to do the healthy eating thing, but being at home with a young child most of the time, I find myself drawn to the kitchen.
I do think smoking is disgusting, stinks, not good around a child, and has countless dangers to health, but I feel like I need a quick fix to get started with the weight loss. I know I will be able to stop instantly when I want to as I have stopped and started lots over the years.
My BMI is 29.something, which is borderline obese. Basically, I'm wondering which is more dangerous, smoking for a short time to get the weight off quickly, or being obese????

Fags reduce appetite - because THEY ARE FULL OF POISON! Arsenic, anyone?

any cyanide, they make you feel sick. hence why i'm eating loads once again.

SEA me too And I''m trying not to thinmk about it. But it IS very hard when you've always been the same weight for years.

i'm on the 10mg patches too this week and they run out of the 14mg ones - oh well.

I understand it's hard to give up... but surely anyone who starts smoking, especially nowadays, has to be a complete idiot?

Good on you for changing your mind

I am on 1mg lozenges around 2-3 times a day.

That's given me an idea.
Now we've established that mymatekate would be a fool-fool girl to take up smoking, can I have a sort of related-hijack?

I really need some ideas on what is good and sustaining but not really fat-making.
Please don't hate me, but I have never had to diet or watch what I eat before. I haven't got a clue.

muggglewump · 06/05/2009 16:17

Don't do it.
I'm not overweight but I am a smoker and I hate it. I hate everything about it, yet I love smoking.

I did give up for months but went back to it.
There is nothing worse than smelling of smoke, than knowing you are setting a terrible example to your child (who btw hates me smoking) and burning money on it

I have tried everything including champix which made me throw up (am emetophobic) and yet here I am still a smoker.

I'd swap the fags for weight any day but it's just not that easy for me.

My advice is eat some partially cooked chicken. Salmonella food poisoning will get the weight off in no time, I lost 2 stone in 3 weeks
