to take my DS out and about when he has a cold?

Other than the snuffles and a little cough he is fine and will be very bored if I keep him all day

Do you get annoyed when other parents take their baby out when they have a cold or treat it as part of life?
Incidentally he did, of course, catch the cold from another child at play group

YANBU and anyone who thinks you are is completely mad! Children get colds, children need to get colds. Small assaults on their immune system is what builds them to be strong enough to cope with big illnesses. I only keep mine at home if they are ill with D&V, or something else very nasty, or if they are actually feeling too ill to go out.

I never keep my ds's in when they have a cold. They both have little snuffly colds now, and we'll go out today. I have bills that need paying and food shopping to do.
The way I see it, if you stayed in everytime the dc's got a little cold, you'd never leave the house.
If they are really poorly, you'd obviously stay in for a few days, but as long as they are dressed appropriately, I wouldn't worry at all.
It doesn't bother me when other children come to park or playgroups with colds and things, after all, the only way to encourage your childs immune system to build, is to expose them to certain germs. IMO

I don't keep mine in unless they have green snot- it does seem unfair if they are obviously that unwell. If they don't then get out and get the air to them. My gage is whether or not you would take time off your work for it and you wouldn't for a cold unless it was extremely bad.

Having said that I'm sure there will be loads of people telling me how irresponsible I am in a minute.

flamingobingo · 05/05/2009 08:27

Green snot? Isn't all snot green? I'd better stay at home myself then

WowOoo · 05/05/2009 08:27

If he's as described and full of beans generally I always take mine out.

Does annoy when another child clearly has a nasty nasty cold/infection/potential virus though.

I was in dept.store toilets and a mother was saying she thought the chicken pox was better, she had to go shopping, what could she do?!!! I am pregnant and I wanted to slap her. Only that kind of thing bothers me. Alot.

Blimey, if I kept DD in whenever she had a cold, we'd be housebound from October to March (DD is sadly one of the Snotty Children). If they are poorly with it, that's a different matter, but I agree with shootfromthehip's going to work test.

JustCallMeGoat · 05/05/2009 08:46

what are you crazy! mmy dd has been living in a plastic bubble since birth [faints at talk of green snot]

flamingobingo · 05/05/2009 08:51

@ goat

Temperature no, cold of course. We'd never go out otherwise.
