For really wanting to get rid of some of DP's and DSD's stuff?

I moved in with DP and his daughter a few months ago. The house is nice but one thing that bothers me is the gorey shit 'decorating' it.

As it was just him and his DD before, he's let her have her ornaments all over and they're tacky and horrible. Bloody cats everywhere but scruffy, old ornaments that wouldn't even sell in a charity shop.

She has this clock on the LIVING ROOM wall and it's bloody hideous. It's an owl with a big clock face in it's stomach and two smaller clocks for its eyes. I want rid. DP just says "well we all like different stuff, we have to play fair"

But since when do 11 year olds get a say on how the living room is decorated? she could have them all in her bedroom.

I know it's not my house to be moving shit around but I don't feel like I can totally settle here whilst I'm so unhappy with the tat littering the place.

Would it be totally unreasonable to insist that she puts all this stuff in her room and not in the living room?

Not at all - as long as if DP doens't like your stuff you agree to put it in the shed!

But seriously - IMO you risk turning into the nasty step mother if you take that line with her tacky stuff. You never know it may have memories/significance for her and if you get too pushy things may go paer shaped.

If it's tacky and she's 11 it won't be that liong and she'll be embarrassed by all the tat - move it then.

Or plan to redecorate and deal with it then by getting her opinion on some new stuiff you all like?

Yep, you can't just move in and take over, being a step parent is hard enough without deliberately peeing dsd off.
